Arsenal identify yet another Spaniard for the managerial role: A perfect fit?

After 22 long years, Arsenal are finally back in the transfer market for a manager and there are not many options that suit their requirements. While Mikel Arteta was reportedly close to landing the job, there are a few other names doing the rounds and one name exciting many fans is Unai Emery.

Arsenal Alerted At Emery’s Availability

Having been replaced by Thomas Tuchel at PSG, Emery is currently out of a job and reports now claim that Arsenal might make an approach for him this summer. A story from Daily Mail reveals that the Spaniard has emerged as a late contender for the Arsenal job.

It is also reported that Arteta is still favourites to join Arsenal but there is a chance that he will work alongside Emery at Emirates. So is this a smart move by Arsenal?

Emery And His Accolades

Having started his managerial career with Lorca Deportiva, his final club as a professional player, the 46-year old spent four decent seasons with Valencia, and just half a season with Spartak Moscow, before he joined Sevilla back in 2013.

He made a name for himself at Sanchez Pizjuan, where he helped the Spanish club to three back to back Europa League titles with a win percentage of 51.7% overall competitions in Spain. He left the club to join PSG in 2016 and in just two seasons, he won every domestic cup possible. But failure to progress in the UCL cost him his job but he now remains the most decorated manager on the wish list for Arsenal at the moment.

He was also named the UNFP Manager of the Year for the recently concluded season and is a huge coup for Arsenal.

Right Man For Arsenal?

While his time at PSG has been productive, it is his returns with Sevilla, competing with minimal financial resources, that has attracted Arsenal’s interest. His style of play is close to what Wenger has employed at Emirates for two decades and from the outside, he is the best option for Arsenal at the moment.

He will not be given unlimited funds like he was at PSG but that situation will be similar to that in Spain and he has already proven himself in such conditions, which will encourage Arsenal. He is not the best in the world but at 46, he can certainly start a legacy that can take Arsenal back to its previous best.

As reported, he may have Arteta, a former Arsenal player, with previous experience at this level, which will only help him settle faster in England. So do you think Arsenal should do what it takes to land Emery for the next season?
