Tottenham Hotspur linked with a move for £30m rated fullback: A good option for Pochettino?

Tottenham Hotspur have a big transfer window coming up as the club have progressed well in the last two years and need to ensure they make the next step. Mauricio Pochettino’s side have been accused of falling too many times at the final hurdle and that’s one thing they’d like to change next season.

One of the biggest tasks for Pochettino will be to keep the squad together but signing a few players will be equally important. One of the players who has been linked with the club of late is Kieran Tierney. Manchester United are also said to be interested in signing the talented left-back.

Celtic value the Scottish international at 30 million pounds and that’s a fee both the Premier League sides can afford. Tottenham are likely to let Danny Rose leave the club which means they will need a player who can do a similar role. Tierney is the perfect fit.

Kieran Tierney – Fact file

The 20-year-old burst on to the scene during the 2014/15 season but only managed to make a couple of appearances. In the ‘15/16 season, at the tender age of 17, he made as many as 23 league appearances and has been a regular at left-back since then.

Under Brendan Rodgers, he has managed to make 28 appearances in the league and has recorded as many as six assists. A pretty attacking fullback, Tierney has also scored thrice for his side.

He’s perhaps a bit young for the Premier League, but in Pochettino, he could have the ideal manager to chisel him for bigger things. Because of how prolific his rise has been, he might not have the chance of succeeding at a club away from the spotlight, like Andy Robertson, for instance.

Robertson had a stellar spell at Hull City before earning a move to Liverpool. And now he’s all set to play in a Champions League final.

Tierney featured in the Champions League this season and though Celtic managed to win just once, he was pretty impressive. Averaging 1.2 key passes a game, Tierney offered a threat on the left flank and his defensive contribution was pretty immense as well.

He averaged 2 tackles and 2.7 interceptions in the group stages and started every game for the Hoops. Though he’ll take some time to adjust to life in the Premier League, he can be a good deputy to Ben Davies and eventually become a first team prospect in the coming years if he can keep up his impressive development.
