Rangers Touted To Sign 18 Y/O Liverpool Sensation: A Decent Move On The Cards?

Celtic maintained their domestic superiority in Scottish football yet again as they clinched the domestic treble under the tutelage of Brendan Rodgers and were far superior to any other club in the country. Meanwhile, their arch-rivals Rangers fell short on some aspects yet again and be it under Pedro Caixinha or Graeme Murty, they flattered to deceive on too many occasions.

Earlier this month, the Gers named former Liverpool skipper and legendary midfielder, Steven Gerrard, as the new manager of the club. Gerrard is set to take over at the Ibrox Stadium officially on 1st July and will aim to give the club a new direction next season. As per one of the latest reports by The Sun, he has prepared a list of targets and Liverpool’s Ben Woodburn seems to be one of them.

There is no denying that the Glasgow giants need to make some good additions in the summer to beef up their arsenal. Gerrard has already bagged Jamie Murphy from Brighton & Hove Albion, Scott Arfield from Burnley and Allan McGregor from Hull City and his interest to prise Woodburn out of the Anfield makes a lot of sense.

Gerrard is nicely acquainted with the youth set-up of Liverpool and rates Woodburn highly. The 18-year-old is one of the highly rated youngsters that Jurgen Klopp has at his disposal but he failed to break into the first team last season. However, he impressed for the Welsh national side during the World Cup qualifiers and he certainly has the calibre to make his presence felt.

The starlet is capable enough to ply his trade as a striker, winger as well as a central attacking midfielder. He has a wide range of skill-set and is someone who loves to test the opposition goalkeeper from close quarters and also from a distance. The Welshman might not possess a dominating stature but he nullifies this weakness with his exceptional awareness, commendable vision and brilliant passing range.

However, it has to be mentioned that Woodburn is neither accustomed to Scottish football nor does he have a notable amount of experience of competitive football under his belt. The Light Blues will need more players with pedigree to meet their needs next season. Despite that, Woodburn certainly has the ingredients to excel and if his move to Rangers actually materializes, he will be able to learn a lot and take his developmental process to the next level.
