Manchester United eyeing goal-scoring Portuguese midfielder: A good fit under Mourinho?

The summer transfer window has officially started and Manchester United must be ruthless in the market if they were to dethrone Manchester City next season.

Rumours have been doing the rounds that United have registered their interest in Anderson Talisca. The Besiktas forward could move away from Turkey in search of better opportunities and Mourinho is said to be a long-time admirer of him.

United are looking to strengthen their attacking department, as well as get rid of some deadwood from the squad. The player will return to his parent club Benfica at the end of a very productive two-year long loan stay at Besiktas.

However, after spending the past couple of years productively and impressively at Besiktas, Benfica would rather cash in on the player rather than holding on to him.

Talisca: An interesting candidate

Talisca is primarily an attacking midfielder who likes to play through the centre. However, it is visible from his performances that the lad can be equally impactful from the right wing too.

Talisca’s attacking output is great, as he is regularly looking to move up and link with the fellow forwards around the box. His pace and footwork enable him to beat the defenders and he can pick out some precise, slick passes into the box too.

He can take some excellent shots from the long-range, is direct and determinable from set pieces and is an attacker through and through. His lack of work and tenacity off the ball might be concerning, as United already have players who aren’t capable of doing much defensive work.

Talisca scored 20 goals and recorded seven assists in 47 league appearances this season. Hence, the interest from United is quite understandable as the current side lacks genuine goal-scorers from midfield.

Should Jose make a move?

United will definitely want to win the title next season, and hence they are filling the gaping holes in the squad. Talisco can play from the right-flank but it is almost given that he will take a lot of time to adapt to the rigours of the Premier League. Then, there will be pressure on him to adapt to the manager’s playing style and hence that would eventually mean that the fans and the club would demand too much from a player who will make such a long jump in terms of the quality of leagues.

There will be a lot of pressure and the price tag can take a toll on any player trying to make a name for himself in the Premier League.

United suffered when they signed Memphis Depay as the Dutchman was playing in a relatively lower league in terms of quality of the opposition. They should not look to repeat the mistake yet again; until, obviously Jose has a different plan altogether!
