Man City To Man United: Will This Be The Biggest Move Of The Decade?

Transfer Story:

There are certain things, which are irreplaceable, unmistakable in life. David de Gea’s importance to Manchester United is surely one of them. The Spaniard arrived at Old Trafford as a young lad unwary of the foreign language, culture, and football.

Seven years later, he has gone on to become the best custodian in world football and has probably just entered the peak years of his career. There is no way or chance that United might let go of him in such crucial years of his career, and hence any chances of a second-choice goalkeeper to stay long enough at United is bleak currently.

Sergio Romero has been tipped with a move away, and the latest report from the Sun believes that United might pursue Joe Hart to fill that void.

Joe Hart: Still good enough?

Pep Guardiola certainly wasn’t fond of Hart and his style of goalkeeping when the Catalan boss arrived at Manchester. Hart was subsequently loaned off to Italian club Torino, where he endured a very mediocre season. Claudio Bravo’s apparent failure at Manchester couldn’t help Hart get back to the team, as Guardiola spent big on Ederson and Hart was again sent on loan to West Ham United. After failing to impress yet again, Hart lost his place in the starting lineup too.

Moyes hasn’t been quite keen on playing Joe regularly and that eventually led to the veteran’s ouster from England’s squad for the World Cup. Hart has been abysmal in the past two seasons, and a part of it is also down to the fact that he is a confidence-player and his self-assurance and belief have surely dented ever since Pep took the charge of the club. Hence, there are murmurs that United might pounce on him to become their second-choice goalkeeper if Romero leaves the club.

Should United make a move?

Sergio Romero has enjoyed quite a good spell at United, as he won the Europa League title last time around and has been a regular feature whenever de Gea has been rested. Most of the backup goalkeepers complain that they end up losing their positions in the national sides, but with Romero, that is not the case. He remains Argentina’s first-choice custodian and hence his international career is quite secured.

Any move to a mediocre club could prove out to be downhill for him as has been the case with Iker Casillas, Victor Valdes, and even Hart. In fact, except Petr Cech to some extent, it has proven to be unbeneficial to custodians. There are few chances that Romero would leave United for any other club. Even if that is the case, it would be better for the club to stick with Joel Pereira as the lad has huge potential and has been in and around the first team quite often.
