Liverpool linked with a move for Serie A legend: A smashing move by Klopp?

Liverpool and goalkeepers; it seems the Reds could be linked all summer with a custodian despite the fact that Loris Karius has been much more confident than what he was around three months ago.

With Simon Mignolet angling for a move, the Reds are on the lookout for a backup option but don’t be surprised if they go ahead and sign someone who can replace Karius as the first team ‘keeper.

If recent reports are to be believed, Liverpool could attempt to sign Juventus legend Gianluigi Buffon. The Italian recently announced that he will leave Juventus but his career could continue elsewhere.

Buffon said, “Next week, after two or three days of reflection and serenity, I will take my decision.

“Fifteen days ago, I was already an ex-player. Now I’m not sure any more. Proposals have arrived for some new challenges on and off the pitch. The most important off the pitch is from Juventus.”

Buffon has been at Juve since 2001 when he moved there from Parma. He has made 508 appearances for the Old Lady and before that, 168 appearances for Parma.

Liverpool have captured the imagination of quite a few fans and players alike with their performances in the Champions League this season and Jürgen Klopp is a manager who has the aura to attract even someone like Gigi Buffon.

His addition would undoubtedly make Liverpool a much better unit at the back. Though he is 40, he has shown this season that he is still as reliable as ever when it comes to making saves and keeping his side in games.

Buffon averaged 2.6 saves a game in the Champions League before Juve were cruelly knocked out by Real Madrid. In the Serie A, he averages 2.2 saves a game and he is still pretty athletic when it comes to dealing with crosses.

Liverpool will have to shell out a bit in terms of wages but it’s likely to be a short-term contract f he does indeed sign for the club.

The Liverpool fans will be pretty excited in the coming weeks firstly because of the Champions League final. Secondly, the club are likely to be pretty active in the transfer window, so the team could look much stronger for next season.
