Brighton & Hove Albion Keen To Land Bundesliga Midfield Ace: Just What They Need?

As per one of the latest reports by Daily Mail, Brighton & Hove Albion are keen to lure Werder Bremen midfielder, Thomas Delaney, to the Amex Stadium in the summer. The highly-rated Denmark international has been serially monitored by the likes of Everton and Tottenham Hotspur and it goes without saying that it will not be easy for Chris Hughton to secure his services.

The Seagulls have had a bid of £10million rejected by the German Bundesliga outfit but it is perceived that Bremen will be ready to strike him off the books only if £16.8million is paid for him. After ensuring their survival in the Premier League this season, it will be important for Brighton & Hove Albion to beef up their arsenal by bringing quality players to improve their stature and Delaney will be a good signing for them.

Delaney emerged through the youth ranks of Copenhagen and then went on to represent their senior side for roughly a decade and after carving a name for himself, he moved to Werder Bremen in the summer transfer window of 2016. Besides, his career has not been limited to club level as he is a recognized player for the Denmark national side as well.

In 31 appearances in the German top flight this season, the 26-year-old has garnered 3 goals and 4 assists. Moreover, he has made 2.5 tackles, 1.4 interceptions, 2.2 clearances and 0.4 blocks per game on an average. His ability to dictate the game from the middle of the park must have appealed to Hughton and there is no doubt that he will bring some freshness to the English side.

Capable of plying his trade as a central defensive midfielder, central midfielder, as well as a central attacking midfielder, Delaney’s work-ethic is commendable, he has the requisite vision to create chances for his teammates and over the years, he has accumulated plenty of experience under his belt. He is exceptional in the air and thanks to his movements on and off the ball, he is a tough player to be marked by the opposition.

Further, he is good at set-pieces, links up well with his teammates and more often than not, he tends to gallop forward to give his side a cutting edge in the final third. Brighton & Hove Albion have been inconsistent at times this season and with the competition set to rise further next season, it will make a lot of sense if they sign Delaney.
