Dele The Star: Tottenham Hotspur Players Rated In Historic Away Win Over Chelsea

With Champions League football the major criteria for Mauricio Pochettino, a historic win at Stamford Bridge has almost locked down the 4 teams who will be qualifying through the Premier League for the European competition.

After a slow start from the visitors, going down by a goal, the engine picked up heat following Eriksen’s stunner.

Tottenham went on to dominate the hosts in the second half and it was just a matter of time before they edged in front. Dele Alli’s double in the second half sunk Chelsea as Tottenham registered their first win at Stamford Bridge since 1990.

The win now takes them further away from the reigning champions and 2 points adrift of Liverpool with a game in hand.

Here are the player ratings for Tottenham-

Hugo Lloris: 6/10

His horrendous misjudgement led to the opening goal. Should have ensured some sort of contact as he came out of his line to meet Moses’ cross but in vain. Made a couple of sharp saves thereafter.

Kieran Trippier: 7.5/10

The ex Burnley star is now shaping up to be one of the best right backs in the country. His up and down running proved to be a great outlet for Tottenham.

Davinson Sánchez: 7/10

Showed good strength and pace to stop the likes of Hazard and Morata. Could have made a better attempt to clear the ball, that led to Morata’s goal. His was clinical on the ball with a pass success percentage of 90.

Jan Vertonghen: 8/10

A solid performance from the Belgian. Was an authoritative figure at the back, winning his aerial duels and making crunch tackles. Was lucky not to receive a red card after a horrific tackle on his compatriot Eden Hazard, though.

Ben Davies: 7/10

Similar to Tottenham’s right back, the Welshman was industrious on the left flank. Managed two key passes in the game. A good performance overall.

Eric Dier: 8.5/10

Was a real physical presence in the middle of midfield alongside Dembele. He was strong in his tackling whilst also being very good on the ball. His excellent floated ball over Chelsea’s defence fed Alli for his first.

Mousa Dembélé: 8/10

His strength and power were too much for the Chelsea midfielders as they found it difficult to nick the ball off him. Had the most successful passes in the game with 56 passes. Another top performance from the Belgian.

Érik Lamela: 7.5/10

Finally getting some game time after his long-term injury. Worked extremely hard off the ball making 5 tackles. Aided the Tottenham attack to good effect.

Christian Eriksen: 9/10

A top draw display from the crafty midfielder. Brought Spurs back into the game with a thunderous strike whilst also setting up Tottenham’s 3rd as his defence-splitting pass put Son on his way and was ultimately finished by Alli.

Dele Alli: 9/10

His 17-match goalless drought finally came to an end as his double helped Spurs take home all 3 points. Paid full respect to Dier’s floated ball that he controlled exquisitely and finished clinically. After some scrappy play in the box, the ball fell kindly to Alli that he buried and put the game to bed.

Son Heung-min: 8/10

Played as the striker in place of Harry Kane and was lively as always. Was a willing runner on and off the ball. A decent performance from the South Korean.

Came on for Son for the final 15 minutes. Would have relished the opportunity to get back on the field after his ankle injury.
