Tottenham Hotspur Register Interest In West Ham United Fullback: Is He The Right Choice?

Tottenham Hotspur are just two wins away from lifting their first trophy under Mauricio Pochettino but the manager is already focusing on the next season and has started scouting for potential transfer targets for the summer transfer window. The latest name now doing the rounds for Spurs is that of West Ham United star Arthur Masuaku.

Masuaku To Replace Danny Rose:

Pochettino could lose English international Danny Rose this summer, with a number of clubs interested in his services. So the manager is looking at players who can replace him in the first team next season and reports from The Sun claim that West Ham’s Masuaku has been identified as a decent option for the side.

A transfer target for Chelsea and AS Monaco as well, the 24-year old will be easy to lure if West Ham go down but if David Moyes keeps them up, he will do everything to retain the player beyond the transfer window. So should Spurs go all in for Masuaku?

Masuaku And His Numbers:

Born and brought up in Lille, the former French U21 international was bought by West Ham back in 2016 for just over £6m and he has easily justified his price tag this season. A full-back who is comfortable playing as a wing-back on the left flank, the former Olympiacos man missed a part of this season due to a lengthy suspension but has been crucial to West Ham’s form, picking up three assists in just 16 starts for this side.

He is an attacking minded player, who can also do the dirty work but his biggest assets are taking on his opponents and setting up goals for his side. He is strong and smart, is usually never wasteful and has a keen eye for a path-breaking pass. He is hard to mark on the flanks and though he has to work on his defensive stability, is a player who can improve most teams in Europe.

Is He Spurs’ Best Option?

Pochettino seems resigned to losing Rose before the start of the next season. He is already looking at the likes of Ryan Bertrand from Southampton and Ryan Sessegnon from Fulham and with all respect to Masuaku, both those names seem to be better options.

While Bertrand’s experience will help him walk into the first team, Sessegnon fits the bill perfectly and could be Pochettino’s best option. Masuaku is also worth a shot but should probably not be at the top of the wishlist for the manager.
