Liverpool to make a move for Serie A goal-machine: Can he make their attack unstoppable?

The transfer window is still a few months away but that doesn’t mean the speculation is going to stop. Let’s face it, we’ve become used to reading out beloved clubs getting linked with players we only dream we can get to see on the pitch. There is hope, but what gets said in the media rarely materialises in the summer, unless the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and PSG are the clubs in the discussion.

Liverpool have had a stellar season so far but Jurgen Klopp and co. will want to kick on in the summer and more quality to their squad to put in better performances next season. Last season, Liverpool were in the title race before a terrible run in January ended the faint hopes they had.

This season, they have managed to stay in the top four but haven’t been able to challenge Manchester City. Performances in the UEFA Champions League will give the fans the belief that the team isn’t far off from one that can finally end their trophy drought.

Like last summer, they’ll want to sign a marquee player come summer and if recent reports are to be believed, they’re eyeing an audacious move for Juventus attacker Paulo Dybala.

It’s a bit odd, really. Dybala has won everything domestically with the club yet all isn’t well with Max Allegri as he has started just 20 league games this season. His performances on the grandest stage – the Champions League – have been far from consistent and if the report is to be believed, Juve are eyeing Antoine Griezmann as Dybala’s replacement.

Paulo Dybala would do it for Liverpool

A team that already has one of the best attacks in world football will only get better with Dybala’s addition. Still only 24, he is arguably Lionel Messi’s heir in the Argentinian national team. Granted, he might not have the same ability like Messi has to tear open defences, but his goal return is incredibly high.

This season, he has mustered 21 goals in the league already and that is a stunning return for someone who has started just 20 games.

Tactical implications

At this point, it’s trivial to think what might happen because it is so early to just take speculation into account. But if he does arrive, Liverpool could transition to a 4-2-3-1 with Dybala playing behind the striker. Firmino will lead the line while Mane and Salah will occupy the wide roles.

Klopp won the league title at BVB with the 4-2-3-1 and if the club can sign a top defensive midfielder to play alongside new signing Naby Keita, the team would be a scary prospect to play against.
