Leicester City Keen To Sign 28 Y/O English Striker: Why This Move Makes Sense

According to reports, Leicester City are interested in the services of Southampton striker Charlie Austin, as they aim to boost their attacking department this summer. Austin, who is currently the top-scorer for the struggling Southampton side this season will be in demand if the Saints fail to resurrect their season and face the unfortunate drop. They are currently in the relegation zone but still have the time to turn things around but their form has not been encouraging.

The former QPR star striker has also worked with Leicester City manager Claude Puel during their time at Southampton, which makes his move to Leicester all the more likely, this summer. The Foxes, however, could face stiff competition from long-term admirers Bournemouth as well as Aston Villa, who are one of the favourites to get promoted to the top-flight next season.

Currently sitting eighth in the Premier League table, Leicester City have been super-impressive under the leadership of Claude Puel. The former Southampton manager has revamped the overall dynamics of the squad with a slightly more conservative approach, which has helped them remain solid throughout the season.

But that being said, the Foxes might be in trouble, should they fail to boost their attacking department next season. With the likes of Riyad Mahrez being highly linked with a move out of King Power Stadium, the former PL Champions are in desperate need of someone who can add a quick boost into their attack and that’s where Charlie Austin comes into the fray.

Since his move to Southampton in 2016, the former Burnley attacker has been an integral part of Saints’ attacking department. This season, despite frequent injury troubles, the 28-year-old has notched up six goals, more than any other Southampton attacker, which shows his predatory skills in front of goal.

Therefore, the addition of Charlie Austin could prove to be a boon for Leicester City this summer, especially with secondary striker Kelechi Iheanacho failing to get into any sort of rhythm. The former Manchester City prodigy has scored only one goal in 15 matches this season and is currently ruled out with a fractured finger.

Furthermore, no guarantees can be made regarding the long-term future of star striker Jamie Vardy. The Leicester superstar is easily one of the best strikers in England and a great World Cup campaign this summer will be enough to lure him away to bigger clubs.

Hence, the Foxes should definitely go all out for this Southampton striker, who can definitely provide some much-needed boost to their attack next season.
