Sam Allardyce will be relatively happy with the upturn in form at Goodison Park that he has seen since taking over as the manager earlier in the season but he is not totally convinced with the squad at his disposal and is already looking for players who can add quality to the first team next season.
This has seen Everton linked with some exciting stars recently and the latest name doing the rounds is that of Aaron Cresswell.
Allardyce Eyes Cresswell Reunion:
According to reports in England, Everton are now interested in the signature of £25m rated English full-back, Aaron Cresswell, this summer. It was Allardyce who introduced Cresswell to the top flight during his time with West Ham and reports claim that he is determined to bring him back to his hometown.
A Liverpudlian, Cresswell started out from the academy at Tranmere Rovers and might be tempted to move back to his hometown. But is he the right man for the Toffees?
Cresswell And His Numbers:
Having joined the Hammers in 2014, Cresswell took no time to establish himself in the first team under the previous manager Slaven Bilic. He has only made three international appearances for the Three Lions, but has already amassed 131 PL appearances and 132 Championship appearances and is one of the most experienced players in his role in the country at the moment.
A left-back by trait, the 28-year old has been used as a part of a three-man backline by David Moyes recently and he has responded well to the new role, showing great maturity and adaptability at the back. He has six assists in 30 league appearances this season and is one of the most consistent players at the club at the moment.
Moyes will not want to lose him any time soon but Cresswell will be a huge addition for Everton.
But Where Does He Really Fit In?
The Toffees spent on Cuco Martina not so long ago and have Leighton Baines, who is finally back from an injury, as the two options for the left-back role in the first team at the moment. Martina, 28 has been effective but Baines, 33, is now the first choice for Allardyce.
The senior English full-back does not have too many years left at his best and quickly needs a replacement and Cresswell fits the bill. He will take no time to make an impact in the first team and can compete with Martina for a starting spot, which will keep both players on their toes and help them constantly improve.
His contract does not run out until 2021 at the London Stadium but do you think he is the right man for the Toffees?
