Liverpool In Pole Position To Sign German Superstar: A Good Move By The Reds?

According to reports, Premier League giants Liverpool are apparently in pole position to sign Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus this summer. Recently coming back from a long injury layoff, Marco Reus’ current contract with the club expires at the end of next season, meaning the Dortmund could be in danger of losing their prized attacking asset should he reject a contract extension.

As for Liverpool, they will be keen to boost their attacking department following the loss of Phillipe Coutinho this January. That being said, the Reds could face stiff competition from Tottenham Hotspur for the signature of Marco Reus this summer.

Can Liverpool finally land Reus?

Marco Reus has been a long-term target for Liverpool. The Reds could arguably get their best chance of luring away the German International in the next transfer window with the player often hinting that a move out of Signal Iduna Park could be on the cards, in the near future.

Since returning from the long-term injury he suffered in the DFB Cup final against Eintracht Frankfurt, Marco Reus has been an integral part of Dortmund’s success in the recent games. The Dortmund superstar has already netted two goals in his five matches this year, including that stunning winner against his former club, Monchengladbach. His partnership with the likes of Mario Götze and Andre Schurrle has also breathtaking at times.

The addition of Reus will no doubt prove to be a massive boost for the Premier League giants next season. Reus not only has the quality but also the experience to prevail in the English top flight. His sheer pace coupled with his tenacity is perfectly suited to Jürgen Klopp’s tactical philosophy, which was rather evident, during their time together at Dortmund a few years ago.

Although it’s very difficult to imagine Reus leaving his hometown club for pastures new, the opportunity to reunite with his former coach Klopp could be enough to convince the German international to make a move to Anfield this summer.

Liverpool’s attacking trio consisting of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Marco Reus is definitely a winning formula for any coach in the world, and therefore, it will be interesting to see as to what measures Liverpool take in order to lure in the highly rated Borussia Dortmund star in the upcoming summer transfer window.
