Everton linked with a move for Porto star: The ideal partner for Keane?

Everton have been shambolic this season and many factors have contributed to that. The Toffees overloaded their midfield last summer whilst also bringing in the likes of Jordon Pickford and Michael Keane to strengthen their defence. However, the youngsters haven’t been consistent enough this season.

When Everton moved in for Keane, he was touted to be Jagielka’s replacement. It’s too early to judge his performances as it’s his first season, but the Toffees need to sign alternatives to ensure they have the requisite squad depth. Ivan Marcano is being linked with a move to Merseyside according to latest reports.

Everton signed Eliaquim Mangala as a temporary stopgap but even that hasn’t worked out well. So, the club will try to convince FC Porto to let go of Marcano.

Ivan Marcano: Strong on all fronts

Marcano has been a key figure for Porto this season. He is quite comfortable on the ball and exudes confidence and assurance at the back. He can pass the ball out of the back pretty well, something Everton need. The Spaniard is very strong in the air as his tall stature gives him an advantage at both ends of the pitch. He has won 70% of his headed duels this season.

In 18 matches in the Portuguese Primeira Liga, he has scored two goals whilst having created eight goal-scoring chances. According to Squawka, the defender completes an average seven defensive actions in each game.

Should Everton make a move?

Everton obviously need a leader at the back and Marcano can fit that bill. He has all the talents to adapt to the Premier League and his arrival will provide Keane a better defensive partner while Pickford will have the assurance of a more assured defence.

Regardless of who’ll be the manager next season, the side need someone who can support Keane well because the England International is the future. Jagielka is in the twilight of his career and no one else has impressed at the back. The club thought they were signing a good centre-back in Ashley Williams, but the Welshman has been too error-prone far too often now and he isn’t getting any younger either.

Marcano is at the peak of his prowess and would be a pretty good addition to the team as he has the experience of playing in the La Liga, the Russian League and the Portuguese league.
