Arsenal have bounced back strongly this week as back to back wins over AC Milan and Watford have now given the fans some reason to cheer. But Arsene Wenger’s job at the club is still in jeopardy and failing to beat Milan at home this week might make it worse.
And it does not come as a surprise that the club hierarchy are already looking at replacements and one name most Arsenal fans want is Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri.
Though he dismissed the links with Arsenal by saying that he is not even trying to learn English, the Italian tactician is a huge favourite to replace the French manager at Emirates next season. Reports from England claim that Allegri has told his pals that he will take over at Arsenal if Wenger is axed at the end of the season.
The report claims that Allegri could lose his job if he is not able to take Juve all the way in UCL this season. If he is up for grabs, is he the right man for Arsenal?
Having spent his playing career playing for clubs from around Italy, Allegri has managed clubs like Sassuolo and AC Milan, before he joined Juventus back in 2014. He has lifted the Serie A title in all his three years at the club and is on course of repeating it this season as well.
He also won the league title in his time in Milan and is the most respected coach in Italy at the moment. He has three Copa Italia titles to show for as well and thought has reached the Champions League final in two of the three years he has been in Turin, is yet to lift the coveted trophy.
At 50, he is a manager who has a good legacy and though he will want to do it in Italy, he has in the past revealed that he is ready for the challenge in England.
His style of play involves playing in a compact system and building from the back, which does not sit in too well with the current style of play at Emirates. Wenger loves his side to play in a fluid system while Allegri needs his players to stick to their tasks rigidly.
He may be able to get more from the current crop of Arsenal players but he will take at least a couple of years to amass a squad that can win silverware in his system and Arsenal should only make a move for him if they are ready to be patient.
It is not wrong to need immediate results but Arsenal need a change in identity and Allegri could be just the man they need.
