West Ham United set to swoop for talented Fulham full-back

One of the areas which West Ham United might be interested to strengthen in the summer is the right-back slot. Sam Byram has been in and out of the side owing to his injuries and Pablo Zabaleta at the dusk of his career. The Hammers would need a long-term solution and reports suggest they could be after Ryan Fredericks.

Fredericks progressed through the youth academy of Tottenham Hotspur and penned his first professional contract in 2010. He struggled to accumulate first-team experience under his belt while he was in the ranks of Spurs and was shipped out on loan to Brentford, Millwall and Bristol City before he was signed permanently by Bristol City in the summer of 2015.

Despite playing for the Robins on 5 occasions, he decided to move to Fulham in the same transfer window due to personal reasons. Since then, he has done well and has earned the tag of one of the finest fullbacks in the Championship. His contract is due to expire in the summer and given that he is yet to sign a new contract with the Cottagers, the apparent interest from West Ham United should interest him.

The Irons would benefit massively in the coming seasons if they manage to lure Fredericks to the London Stadium in the summer on a free transfer as his calibre and productivity are really commendable. The 25-year-old has raw pace and arguably, his speed is his strongest suit. He is a modern-day fullback who loves to maraud up the flanks.

He is a sensational dribbler and an astute crosser of the ball and he is someone who is quite reliable at keeping possession intact. In 31 appearances in the second-tier of English football so far this season, Fredericks has notched up 6 assists and has made 1.6 tackles, 0.7 interceptions and 2.6 clearances per game on an average and has therefore been an instrumental figure in Slavisa Jokanovic’s system.

David Moyes’ side have been far from convincing this season and he would probably look to get a few fresh faces to his ranks in the summer to lift the quality of his side. Fredericks has proved his mettle in the Championship and is perhaps ready to make the step up to the top-flight of English football.
