Predicted 4-2-3-1 Tottenham Hotspur lineup vs Newport County: Lamela to start?

Tottenham might have won just once in their last four games in all competitions, but the mood is pretty good after their recent performance at Anfield. After a difficult first half, Spurs managed to shut out Liverpool in the second and managed to pick up a point late on in the game. It was a positive result away from home with games against Arsenal and Juventus coming up.

Mauricio Pochettino will have to rotate his squad before those two games, though, as they have a game against Newport County at Wembley. After a dull performance in the first leg, Spurs will have to get the job done in the second time of asking.

Unlike the first leg, though, we could see Harry Kane entirely sitting this one out as Pochettino will want to keep him fresh for the North London derby. The side had to rely on the Englishman’s late goal in the earlier tie.

Here’s how the side could line up against the League Two side…

Defence

Hugo Lloris will sit the tie as Michel Vorm usually gets the nod for the cup games. Serge Aurier was on the bench for the Liverpool tie and he could return and play as the right-back. Danny Rose and Toby Alderweireld are back, so they could start at left-back and centre-back respectively. Juan Foyth started the last FA Cup game and could partner Alderweireld at the heart of the defence.

Midfield

Victor Wanyama had a brilliant cameo against Liverpool and should start in front of the defence. He could be paired alongside Harry Winks who also returned from an injury and made the bench against Liverpool. Expect Wanyama to once again bomb forward as Spurs will want to push Newport and finish the tie as soon possible.

Moussa Sissoko could get a start in the number 10 role. The Frenchman will want to prove a point with important games coming up for the North Londoners.

Attack

It’s unlikely we’ll see Harry Kane, so Fernando Llorente will most likely lead the line. Unfortunately, Lucas Moura wasn’t registered in time, so he won’t be eligible against Newport. Eric Lamela could, however, get an opportunity to impress again. He won the penalty against Liverpool that allowed Kane to level things up from the spot.

Dele Alli could get the nod to start on the left. He put in a decent performance against Liverpool but Pochettino will hope the attacker hits a purple patch keeping in mind the big games they have in the coming weeks.
