Power shift in north London, Jose hanging on and other talking points from the Premier League weekend

Well, well, well…

This Premier League weekend served up some stunning surprises and a whole lot of exhilarating blitzkrieg for the fans. Now, let us jump in to take a look at the three major talking points from the weekend action of Premier League football:

  1. North London ain’t staying Red for too long now:

The biggest match of the weekend served up some of the most one-sided action in recent months. The National Stadium was host to a record-breaking attendance for a Premier League match as Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal locked horns on Saturday. However, a near to listless display by the Gunners meant that the Spurs comfortably emerged as the 1-0 victors.

Harry Kane outsmarted Laurent Koscielny to score a header in the second half as Arsenal’s new recruits failed to put up decent performances. The Gunners have always been perceived as bigger and better than Tottenham and their trophy count backs up the claims. But we are witnessing a drastic change and a couple of more North London derby wins will only hammer home the point.

  1. Jose stumbles; falls, but still hangs onto his second spot:

St. James’ Park has never been a happy hunting ground for Jose Mourinho and the gaffer once again got a reminder of his continuous failures at Newcastle’s home ground on Sunday. Manchester United failed to churn out a victory despite creating numerous chances and Jose’s team dropped their lead over the third-placed side from five points to two points against Liverpool.

However, as has been the case numerous times this season, despite occasionally dropping points here and there, Manchester United have managed to keep hold of their second spot. This time too, the scenario doesn’t change. Anyways, with Liverpool’s victory over Southampton, United have to play neck-to-neck with Jurgen Klopp’s team to finish at the second position.

Oh, what a match it would be on 10th March, eh?

  1. Only a miracle can stop Manchester City now:

The 2017/18 season is likely to go down in history books as the season when Manchester City and Pep Guardiola dismantled English norms and rigid beliefs to single-handedly lay their hands on the Premier League title.

Or, am I going too quick eh?

Well, certainly not. Manchester City have been on a dream run this season and have swatted aside the opposing teams with their sheer dominance on the pitch and in the transfer market. With just one loss in 27 matches already, Manchester City look set to win the trophy now as they need a mere 18 points from these 11 games.
