Manchester City may be running away with the Premier League title this season but they have shown enough weaknesses this season that they will have to work on in the summer transfer window. Pep Guardiola, who has already spend record amounts on star players, is still in search of names that can improve the squad at the Etihad.
This has seen him linked with a number of star players recently and one name now doing the rounds is Serbian ace Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
According to reports from Italy, A host of European giants are interested in the services of the Lazio midfielder this summer. He is contracted with the club till 2022 and is valued at £80m but reports claim that Manchester United, Manchester City and Real Madrid are set to battle it out for his signature at the end of the season.
“There’s huge interest in him from great clubs in Italy, England, Spain and France,” revealed the player’s agent, in a recent interview. So is he the right man for Pep?
A product of the academy at Vojvodina in his home country, the 22-year old made a name for himself in his time at Genk, where he spent just a year before being snapped up by Italian giants Lazio, back in 2015. He cemented a place in the first team immediately and has 83 Serie A appearances, 24 of which have come this season.
He also has two national caps and is slowly turning into one of the most exciting midfielders in Italy at the moment. A versatile midfielder who can not only put a shift in a defensive role, but can add creativity to the side in an attacking role, the 22-year old is a gifted footballer, with great touch and technique.
He is strong in the air and quick to win the ball back in the midfield as his understanding of the game allows him to stay a step ahead of his opponents. He can beat the keeper from long distances but is equally adept at creating chances for his side with through balls and key passes, making him a complete midfielder.
His skill and ability to dribble away from danger, while constantly winning fouls for his side make him an annoying player to face and on his day, he can easily win matches for his side, which will attract Pep Guardiola.
With Kevin de Bruyne and David Silva occupying the attacking midfield roles, City only need backups to their midfield and the Serb is as good an option as any. He can put in a shift in Fernandinho’s role, in Pep’s 4-3-3 but he is expected to act as an understudy to Silva and De Bruyne, as he gets used to the English game.
He has attributes to excel in the Premier League and can solve City’s problems in the midfield but lack of regular playing time might be a hindrance in this move. But do you think he is the right man for City?
