West Ham United complete the signing of all-action midfielder: What will he add to the Hammers?

Inter Milan midfielder Joao Mario has completed a shocking move to West Ham United, following a disappointing stint with the Nerazzurri. According to Sky Sources, the midfielder will join West Ham on a loan deal, which expires at the end of this season.

West Ham boss David Moyes has already confirmed that the Portuguese International is currently having a medical and will soon be unveiled as a West Ham player.

Joao Mario, who was earlier linked with a move to Manchester United, joined Inter from Benfica in the summer of 2016 but has struggled to impose himself in the Seria A. He was often overlooked by Luciano Spalletti, who deemed him surplus to his requirements.

David Moyes, on the other hand, will be delighted to have the secured the signing of the Portuguese International, who can definitely bolster their midfield department.

Joao Mario – fact file

Largely known for his versatility, Joao Mario can play anywhere across the midfield positions. In fact, he can also be deployed as a right midfielder if necessary. Although he played as a central midfielder for the most part of his footballing career.

He can prove to be a very good addition to West Ham considering the fact that the Hammers have struggled to impose authority in the middle third of the pitch this season. Although Pedro Obiang has emerged as a key component, the likes of Cheikhou Kouyate and Mark Noble have struggled with their lack of form.

Therefore, Mario’s addition to the team can revitalise their midfield department. The Portuguese midfielder is someone who relies heavily on his overall athleticism. He can make a telling difference with his warrior-like attitude and remarkable fighting spirit. Furthermore, Mario is full of tenacity, meaning he can be an ideal for Moyes’ side, who often likes to catch their opposition on the break.

Last but not the least, it’s his attacking prowess which makes a unique component in the centre of the park. His willingness to create chances for his teammates coupled with his surgical runs forward often becomes a handful to the opposition.

Although coach David Moyes admitted his concern regarding Joao Mario’s ability to get used to the demands of the Premier League, it’s not something he should really be worried about. His athletic nature coupled with his series of offensive skill-set will allow him to thrive in the English top flight and could possibly make him one of the stars for West Ham United come the end of the season.
