Liverpool Ready To Pay £100m For La Liga Star To Solve Their Defensive Woes

Liverpool might have dazzled in their attacking endeavours this season in the Premier League, having smashed 54 goals in their 23 league outings but their opponents haven’t found it hard to breach their defence. The Reds have conceded 28 goals, which make them the side which has conceded the highest amount of goals among the top five teams in the league table so far.

One of the areas that they need to strengthen is their goalkeeping slot. Although Klopp has two goalkeepers at his disposal in Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius, they have been out of form this season. Besides, both of them have seemingly appeared to be timorous more often than not. With the battle for a top-four finish getting tighter with the passage of every week, Liverpool do need to fix this loophole.

As per one of the latest reports by Liverpool Echo, the eighteen-time English champions are desirous to make Atletico Madrid’s custodian, Jan Oblak, sign on the dotted line this month to solve their goalkeeping woes. However, luring Oblak to the Anfield would not be easy as the La Liga outfit have a release clause of €100million in his contract.

This implies that he would be world’s most expensive signing for a goalkeeper and as per the report by Liverpool Echo, Oblak was present in Liverpool’s clash with Arsenal earlier this month, thus spicing up the transfer speculation. Liverpool have already made a blockbuster signing of Virgil van Dijk from Southampton for a whopping £75million transfer fee this month and might be inclined to sign Oblak as well.

The 25-year-old has been stupendous for the Red and Whites so far this season, having collected 12 clean sheets in 19 appearances in La Liga and making 2.74 saves per game on an average. He has been an instrumental player for Diego Simeone’s side this season and it goes without saying that the Spaniard would be reluctant to let him leave Wanda Metropolitano anytime soon.

However, if Liverpool manage to get him, he would be a smashing signing for them. The Slovenian international is an excellent goalie who has a commanding presence between the sticks. His reflexes are top notch and the manner in which he distributes the ball is quite exemplary. Besides, he deals with the crosses in a meticulous fashion, is good at stopping shots from close as well as long range and has the requisite experience under his belt to ply his trade for a top quality side like Liverpool.
