Leeds United Linked With A Move For Dutch Fullback: The Right Choice By Christiansen?

The Scenario

Leeds United have been bereft of form and luck of late as they have mustered merely 1 point from their last 4 games in the Championship. Thomas Christiansen’s side are faltering in the race for promotion to the Premier League and at this point of time, his side is placed at the 10th spot in the league table with 43 points to their name from 28 outings.

Need For Signings

The race for a top-six finish is only going to get tougher from here onwards and given their current lack of form, the Whites will drop out of contention if it persists for a few more weeks. Leeds United might have signed the likes of Laurens De Bock and Adam Forshaw but more reinforcements are needed to substantiate their case.

Speculation

As per one of the latest reports by Bristol Post, the Yorkshire-based outfit is understood to be in hot pursuit of FC Utrecht’s blossoming youngster, Giovanni Troupee, on loan until the end of the season. Luke Ayling is out for the rest of the season after suffering an ankle injury and thus, Christiansen has placed the youngster on his radar to meet his needs in the right-back slot.

Fact File And Attributes

Troupee emerged through the youth ranks of FC Breukelen and FC Utrecht, before being promoted to the senior side of the latter. The Dutchman has made just 14 appearances for the Eredivisie side this season and is likely to be desperate to get more time on the pitch. Apart from Leeds United, Sampdoria, Hellas Verona and Benevento are also believed to be interested to make him sign on the dotted line.

The 19-year-old is a modern-day right-back who has an inclination towards the offensive aspect of his side’s endeavours and with blistering pace in his legs, he gallops up and down the pitch with relative ease. He is dynamic and accelerates well, showcases immense work-rate and is impressive with his tackles, interceptions and ability to read the game.

Will This Be A Good Deal?

With Gaetano Berardi the only competent option for the right-back position, the apparent interest from the Peacocks makes sense. Besides, a move to the Elland Road on loan seems to be an enticing prospect for Troupee. Christiansen is likely to have specific plans up his sleeve for the youngster which would enable him to take his developmental process to the next stage.
