The transfer window this month is expected to be one of the busiest in recent times as clubs around England are desperate to add to their sides before the deadline day. Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez is out of a contract at the end of the season and is likely to be sold this month.
The likes of Manchester City and Manchester United have constantly been linked with a move for the Chilean international but Antonio Conte’s Chelsea have now reportedly joined the race for his signature.
Reports earlier in the week revealed that Manchester City have been put off by the player’s wage demands and have ended their interest in the Arsenal man. So it does not come as a surprise that other top clubs in the country are now interested in his services.
An exclusive from The Express has now run a story claiming that Chelsea have entered the fray for his signature and are ready to make a late bid. Reports in France claim that Manchester United are close to landing him, offering Henrikh Mkhitaryan as a part of the deal. So can Chelsea land him? Is he the right man for the Blues?
Arguably one of the most productive wingers in world football over the last couple of years, Sanchez joined Arsenal back in 2014 but is yet to win the league or the UCL in his time in England. He only has 7 goals and 3 assists this season but has managed 60 goals and 27 assists in 122 Premier League games.
He also has 38 goals in 115 appearances for the Chilean national side and at 29, is still in his prime as a footballer. Known for his industrious work rate in the final third, Sanchez is a player who loves to give it his all in every game. However, that has only decreased over the years at the Emirates.
He is an excellent finisher but is more adept playing as a creator, just in behind the striker. He can finish chances off and has a great key pass ratio, which is among the best in the game. He can also lead the line and Conte will believe that his versatility and quality is just what his side needs at the moment.
Sanchez wants to quit Arsenal in search of trophies. Chelsea are in no better position to win anything this season but they are far ahead of Arsenal in terms of quality in their squad and the Chilean does have a better chance of winning silverware, on the other side of London.
He plays in a similar position as Eden Hazard and can also replace Alvaro Morata in the attack but if Sanchez joins Chelsea, he could walk into the first team, over Pedro and Willian, and start on the right flank.
An attack of Hazard, Sanchez and Morata is right up there with the best in the league and if Chelsea are able to land the former Barcelona man, it can help them compete for trophies, not just this year but for years to come.
