Cardiff City Eyeing A Move For Ipswich Town Forward: Can He Propel Them To The Premier League?

Cardiff City have been strong Premier League promotion contenders so far this season. Although there’s a lot to be done in the remainder of the season, the tenacity and desire they’ve shown this season is pretty promising. Neil Warnock must add a few fresh faces to the squad to ensure his side avoid any late slipups and return to the Premier League.

Bournemouth striker, Lewis Grabban, has been heavily linked with a move to Cardiff City Stadium and the deal was all but done. However, it seems that the negotiations have not continued to go in the right direction and Grabban’s transfer might not materialise.

As per reports from Wales Online, the Bluebirds seems to have placed Ipswich Town striker, David McGoldrick, on their radar and are keenly monitoring him. McGoldrick has been quite decent for the Tractor Boys this season in the English Championship, having smashed 6 goals and setting up 4 in 20 games so far.

His contract with Ipswich Town expires at the end of the season and his current club might want to cash in on him now rather than seeing him leave for free in the summer. The Blues are believed to have slapped a price tag of £500,000 and it is apparent that Cardiff won’t mind parting with such a nominal fee for a proven player.

McGoldrick has plied his trade for teams like Southampton, Coventry City, Bournemouth and Notts County and thus, he has tons of experience under his belt. One of the striking abilities he’ll bring to the table is the manner he holds the ball so well in the final third. Besides, the Republic of Ireland international is tremendously versatile and can operate effectively from anywhere in the attacking zone.

The 30-year-old contributes defensively as well, something Warnock demands from his forwards. Apart from Cardiff, Birmingham, Sheffield Wednesday and Fulham are also in the race to secure his signature, which makes the scenario quite interesting. It is to be seen which club has the final laugh but given that City might not be able to bring Grabban, signing someone like McGoldrick would indeed make a lot of sense and thus, they must go all in.
