West Ham United Considering A Move For Arsenal Star: Good Fit For Moyes?

West Ham United have finally found some rhythm this Premier League season as they have picked up seven points from their last three games, though their most recent game ended with a defeat to Arsenal in the EFL Cup. The newly appointed David Moyes is doing a decent job at the club but is evidently looking to add to his options in the squad, in the January transfer window.

The Hammers have a decent squad but need some quality players in a couple of positions and one player Moyes is now desperate for is Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere.

Transfer story

The English midfielder broke into the top flight more than four years ago, and was expected to be the next best thing in world football but consistent injuries and lack of form have seen him struggle to cement a place in the starting XI at the Emirates. He wants more game-time and is looking to quit the Emirates, with just over six months left on his contract with the club.

He is slowly getting into the plans of Arsene Wenger but reports claim that a number of clubs are interested in his services and West Ham are one of them. Arsenal could be forced to sell in January, to avoid selling him on a free at the end of the season but is he the right man for West Ham?

Wilshere and his quality

A central midfielder by trait, the 25-year old is adept at playing as a part of a two-man midfield, where he can push forward with every opportunity. Nimble feet with some gifted technique and understanding of the game, the Arsenal man is adept at creating chances from a deeper role and averages 2.3 key passes per game in the five starts he has made in the Europa League this season.

His positioning and discipline, for the defensive side of his game, are at times questioned but the biggest issue with Wilshere is his injury history. Wilshere has already missed 90 league games for Arsenal, after making his first senior appearances almost six years ago and has hardly been a player Wenger can trust in crunch games.

However, his experience, with 153 PL appearances already to his name, is what is attracting interests from a number of English clubs. He is sure to turn into a star if he can find some consistency and is a player not many clubs will reject.

Chances at West Ham

The Hammers have a decent number of midfielders at their disposal but Wilshere adds a completely different dimension to the names that they already have. The likes of Mark Noble, Cheikhou Kouyaté, Pedro Obiang, Edmilson Fernandes and Declan Rice have all played in the midfield but every player in that list is defensive, which has obviously hurt West Ham’s creativity in the final third.

Wilshere, who can even walk into the first team under David Moyes, can control the tempo of the game and if partnered along with the likes of Obiang, who remains the first choice for the new manager, give the team a renewed balance.

Wilshere is a match-winner on his day and will not only help the Hammers move away from the drop zone, but will also help them compete for a place in the top half. However, it will not be easy for West Ham to lure him away from Arsenal.
