Chelsea are on the road for another game as they visit Huddersfield Town tonight in the midweek round of fixtures. They have already lost four games, three of which came against Burnley, Crystal Palace and West Ham United.
A team which registered 30 wins last season wherein they put aside the teams below the top four with considerable ease, is struggling to beat sides who have serious issues of their own. According to the boss, the title race is over for the Champions this time around as they are already 14 points off the summit, with Manchester City in no mood to slow down.
Their focus is now on the other competitions and to finish top four in this one, as it’s getting tougher due to the other teams around them.
As this game comes just two days after the previous one, Conte will look to chop and change a bit.
David Luiz is still not back and is much needed despite frailties in the recent past. Danny Drinkwater, who was unwell is going to feature in this game.
Alvaro Morata is ruled out due to a back strain, playing five games in quick succession cited as the cause.
Defence :
Thibaut Courtois is a sure starter in goal. He needs a clean sheet to regain his lost confidence.
Antonio Rudiger is set to return to the left side of the defence after Gary Cahill disappointed in the previous game and has played back to back matches in quick succession.
Andreas Christensen is a symbol of solidity and consistency. He will start in the middle of the defence.
Cesar Azplilicueta will lead the side and aim to do what he does best, work hard, block shots, close players down and not give any room.
Midfield :
Cesc Fabregas, who looked a bit off the pace in the previous game will hope to get Chelsea on the front foot right away. Overall, he has been delightful with his range of passing.
N’Golo Kante will play alongside the pass master. He is an absolute powerhouse with his work rate, good feet while dribbling and aiding the forwards. While Alonso and the relatively fresh Moses will be hogging the flanks on either side.
Attack :
Willian and Pedro have been yearning for some time in the middle and might get it tonight. They are quick, technically sound and exciting to watch and will be desperate to impress.
As Morata played the full 90 minutes in the previous games, he is unfortunately sidelined. Hence, Eden Hazard could lead the attack given the lustre and sharpness Batshuayi will lack after coming back from injury. Conte doesn’t really have faith in the Belgian striker either.
