Everton interested in signing complete Bundesliga midfielder: A player who will add more quality?

Transfer story

Everton enjoyed a fairly successful transfer window this past summer. Manager Ronald Koeman reinforced his team with some ambitious signings as the Toffees redesigned their attack by signing the likes of Wayne Rooney, Sandro Ramirez, and Gylfi Sigurdsson. However, the Merseyside club are having a difficult time in the League.

Everton have managed just four points in three games and the Dutch manager is already looking to bring in some new signings come January.

A report from talkSPORT states that Everton are battling with Tottenham to secure the signature of midfielder Thomas Delaney. Ross Barkley will leave for Spurs in January, which can leave a huge hole in Everton’s lineup. Ronald Koeman knows that he needs a balanced squad to challenge for the top-six this time.

Though his team looks good on paper, they will need to start displaying their talent on the field. Delaney lit up the Bundesliga after joining German side Werder Bremen last January and could be a good addition.

Style of play

Delaney is sort of a complete midfielder. He is a tough tackler and a ball winner in the midfield. He can play as a defensive as well as an attacking midfielder, thereby showing his versatility. He has the ability to switch positions and control the pace of the game from the centre of the park.

His raw pace combined with the technical ability makes him a complete package. Delaney is also a threat from set pieces and the master of the dead ball. His aerial ability gives him an advantage over the defenders in the box.

Delaney used to represent FC Copenhagen before joining Werder Bremen towards the second part of the last season. He became a sensation as he scored four goals and set up one for his team in just thirteen appearances. His adaptation to a new team was commendable.

What does he bring to Everton?

Options. Though Everton look a good team to compete for a European place, they simply lack options at the centre of the park. They are too easily bullied by teams of higher tactical ability, like Tottenham showed last week.

Everton lack creativity and the drive in midfield. This makes the forwards go deeper and hence they are left with fewer players going forward. Hence, Delaney who has the ability to thwart an attack in the middle of the park and then orchestrate the play will be valuable.

Thomas Delaney is a physically strong player with excellent aerial prowess. He will fit into the rigours of the Premier League and would be a valuable addition to the Toffees squad.
