Tottenham Hotspur Set To Hijack Chelsea’s Move For Spanish Forward: A Smashing Grab?

In an unlikely turn of events, Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly made a last gasp move for Chelsea target Fernando Llorente. This is definitely a deterrent to what we have come to expect from transfers involving Chelsea and other clubs with the Blues known for their late moves to hijack deals and ironically Spurs have been at the receiving end quite a few times in the past.

Coming back to this particular story, Conte has been on the lookout for a backup to Alvaro Morata for a long time now with the Italian gaffer somewhat unconvinced by Michy Batshuayi in that role, despite the Belgian impressing time and again. And with Llorente having had success under Conte in the past and with the Spaniard adjusting excellently to the Premier League, he was a ready-made option for the London Blues to have as their backup and Plan B.

But this particular transfer saga has been going on for quite a while and with Deadline day upon us, it still hasn’t seen the light of the day.

And their London rivals seem to have taken advantage of the dilly dallying and Mauricio Pochettino, who has similar issues to that of Conte when it comes to depth in the attacking department, has zeroed in on Llorente to provide the depth and sharpness in the striking department.

Spurs have Harry Kane as their numero uno up front but after that, it is a sorry sight indeed. Vincent Janssen has been unable to find any footing whatsoever in England and his hyped move to North London has fallen flat. And with hours till the window shuts, Pochettino has made his move to address the issue.

Spurs have repeatedly come close to the title in the last couple of years but a number of factors have been delaying their maiden title triumph.

Leicester City had their best season in the history of the club while Chelsea and Conte served up a delightful season of tactical football to leave the Lilywhites stranded. And with all their title rivals having strengthened considerably, this is a move which is a necessity in light of the number of competitions they will be participating in.

And this is a refreshing bit of news for the fans as the proactive nature of the bid and the intent to take on Chelsea in the transfer market certainly makes a statement. With hours left until the deadline, we can expect a conclusion anytime now.
