Crystal Palace Favourites To Sign This Tottenham Hotspur Custodian: A Smart Move By de Boer?

Frank de Boer’s regime at Crystal Palace hasn’t kicked off in a riveting manner as under his tutelage, they have lost three games on the trot in the Premier League this season. After getting battered by Huddersfield Town and Liverpool, the Eagles succumbed to Swansea City on Saturday as the Swans clinched a 0-2 win at the Selhurst Park.

Crystal Palace find themselves in the 19th spot in the league table and with not much time left before the curtains of the summer transfer window fall, de Boer must chalk out a deal or two in order to strengthen his backline. The goalkeeping slot is a position which the former Internazionale manager has been keen to solidify as well as to seek competition for Wayne Hennessey.

The manager sanctioned the departure of Steve Mandanda earlier this summer to Ligue 1 outfit Marseille and thus, they actually do need to sign a goalkeeper of a decent reputation and prominence. Apparently, one of the recent reports to have emerged has stated that Crystal Palace are attempting to secure the services of Tottenham Hotspur shot-stopper Michel Vorm.

JSV Nieuwegein’s youth setup enabled Vorm to surface and the Dutchman eventually paved his way to the senior side of the Dutch outfit Utrecht. Eventually, he made a switch to Swansea City and his fine form with the Swans made him a household name in the country. In the summer transfer window of 2014, he made a switch to the ranks of Spurs and it was expected that it would be an upward step in his career.

However, the scenarios haven’t dished out in the anticipated manner as Vorm was continually kept merely as a deputy to Hugo Lloris at the North London based outfit. His stature has reduced significantly over the last three seasons owing to the paltry amount of game time he accumulated and considering that Mauricio Pochettino has signed a new custodian in the shape of Paulo Gazzaniga from Southampton this summer, Vorm’s days with the Lilywhites seem numbered.

In such a situation, de Boer can meet his needs of bagging a goalkeeper who is comfortable with the ball at his feet as well by making the 33-year-old Dutch international sign on the dotted line before 31st August. Besides, having failed to challenge Lloris substantially, Vorm should now move on in his career in order to get more time on the pitch, and a move to Crystal Palace should benefit him.
