Burnley Make Their Biggest Signing Of The Summer: Can The Player Propel Them Into The Top 10?

Sean Dyche’s Burnley failed to build on their victory in the first game of the season over Chelsea as they fell to a 1-0 loss to West Bromwich Albion in the second game of the season this weekend. It is quite clear that Dyce has a huge plan going ahead and he wants as much quality in his squad as possible, to survive the drop yet again.

This has seen him sign one of the finest strikers in English domestic football in Chris Wood.

Chris Wood completes Turf Moor switch:

The Clarets, who have been scouting the 25-year old for quite some time now, have finally managed to land him on what will be a club record deal this summer. The New Zealand international completed his medical with the club on Monday and is set to be unveiled in the upcoming days.

He will cost the club £15m and has signed a four-year contract, which he will want to serve in the top flight.

Goal scoring machine:

Having picked up a goal and an assist for Leeds in the Championship already this season, Wood is one of the most prolific goal scorers around in England at the moment. Having moved to England with the Baggies back in 2009, Wood only made a name for himself with a decent stint at Leicester City but broke onto the scene in the last two years at the Elland Road.

He has scored 41 goals in 83 appearances in the last two seasons and has been the first choice for club and country, for who he has made 52 appearances already.

Known for his finishing and calm head in the final third, Wood has already made 223 Championship appearances and at just 25, is a long-term option for Burnley. He is tailor-made for the English game and will surely add goals to Sean Dyche’s side this season.

Chances at Turf Moor:

Sam Vokes has led the attack for the side in the first couple of games for the season and though he was not at his best against West Brom, he showed what he is capable of in the victory over Chelsea. Wood is a similar player, who, though not a massive upgrade on the Welsh star, is a player who is more than capable of walking into the first team.

Burnley lost Andre Gray this summer to Watford, which saw Dyche shift to a 4-5-1 formation but Wood will allow him to go back to a 4-4-2 that saw them survive relegation last season. But do you think Wood can handle the pressure of the Premier League?
