Jurgen Klopp has been a busy man since the end of the previous season as he managed to take the Anfield outfit to the Champions League after three long years and is now responsible to help them compete with the best teams in Europe in the elite competition. They have already added some decent players to their squad but Klopp does not look like he is done yet, and continues to be linked with some exciting stars for a move this summer.
The Reds are sweating over the future of their talismanic Brazilian Philippe Coutinho, who is wanted by Barcelona, who want him to replace Neymar Jr, who joined PSG.
Barcelona are at a very bad stage in the transfer window as they do not have enough time to find an able replacement for the Brazil skipper who quit the club recently. They have been looking at the likes of Ousmane Dembele and Paulo Dybala as options but the Liverpool star is surely at the top of the wishlist for Ernesto Valverde at the Camp Nou.
Liverpool have reportedly rejected a bid in excess of £80m recently for his services but according to the report, they want Andre Gomes along with the huge transfer fee if they are to consider letting the player leave.
Known for his versatility across the midfield, Gomes is a technically gifted player, who hardly loses possession of the ball. He is an excellent dribbler who can get past his man almost every time and though his final ball is a still a bit rusty, he is more than a capable player, who can walk into most top squads in Europe.
He is strong in his hold up play and at just 24, will only get better while his 25 international appearances, 93 La Liga appearances and 16 Champions League appearances, makes him an established star in Europe.
The answer to that question will be NO! but Liverpool are not getting just Gomes in place of Coutinho. They are also gaining £90m if they go ahead with this deal and they can spend that money on an ideal replacement for Coutinho in the future.
The likes of Christian Pulisic, Ousmane Dembele, Kylian Mbappe and Thomas Lemar are all exciting options for Liverpool. Though none of those names can directly replace Coutinho, they can surely add the creativity and flair that they need to win silverware in the upcoming campaign.
It is a decent offer for Liverpool but as things stand, they should rather want to keep the 25-year old Brazilian and have him help them to silverware this season.
