Swansea City closing in on £11m-rated midfield destroyer: The best bargain deal of the summer?

The story

Like all Premier League clubs, Swansea City are also in the hunt to add more quality players to their current squad. These days it is not a choice, but more of a need for every club from the top flight of English football to bolster their side, prior to the start of the news season, if they wish to survive the season without too many problems and have any chance of winning something.

After finishing in 15th place last season, the Swans will now want to leave their mark on the league this time around and are targeting a lot of players, whom they feel worthy of joining their squad.

A star who has been linked with them for quite some time could not be on the verge of joining them, for a fee of £11m, in the days to come.

The player is none other than Roque Mesa of Las Palmas, who has been able to attract the attention of manager Paul Clement.

The deal for the 28-year old midfield superstar is all set to be completed and it could prove to be a game-changer, if he manages to really settle down well quickly.

Player stats

The Spaniard is more of a central, holding midfielder, who is utilised more often defensively than pushing up front. In the 36 appearances that he made last season in all competitions, he just had a single goal and two assists to his name. He averages 1.5 tackles and 1.1 interceptions every game and boasts a pass success rate of 91.4%.

Mesa’s passing ability can be an asset to his side, and his game breaking ability means the likes of Sigurdsson can play more freely up front without having to worry about the defensive aspect of his game. 14 yellow cards last season does imply that he needs to be a bit more disciplined. Deal or no deal?

The player is 28 and though he does have his strengths, I feel it is more or less what Swansea need right now to go up the league table. The club is in need of an experienced campaigner and Mesa could be the right guy for them.

If he can adjust to the pace of football in England, it would be a great signing, as he can also inspire the youngsters to perform better.

Worth the price?

Well, with the big clubs being urged to pay around £100m for every player that they set their sights on, the deal does seem rather fair, and for a club that really need a strong presence in the midfield. It would work out well for both the player and the club, hopefully.
