Arsenal star agrees personal terms with Premier League rivals, transfer to follow soon?

What could have been a transfer saga might come to a quicker end as Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez has agreed terms with Manchester City, according to reports from O Jogo.

Although the credibility of the source is a doubt, the transfer has been touted to happen sooner rather than later as the Sanchez has failed to agree terms for a new contract as he is demanding higher wages at the moment.

The Chilean has close to a year remaining on his contract but he will still fetch a sizable transfer fee. Manchester City will have to fork out something close to the transfer fee they paid Wolfsburg for Kevin de Bruyne, which stands at £55m.

What do we know so far?

Well, both clubs have had a good transfer window so far. While Manchester City have added Bernardo Silva and Ederson to strengthen two key positions, Arsenal have finally spent good money on a striker as they signed Alexandre Lacazette for a club record fee and managed to swoop in for Sead Kolasinac as well.

Expect City to be the busier of the two teams as they still need to strengthen their defence and perhaps add one more midfielder. Arsenal, on the other hand, will want to replace Sanchez with a marquee player, so things could get pretty interesting in the coming weeks.

Questions raised again

Despite all the action in the transfer market from the Gunners, the fans will question the club’s decision to sell Sanchez to City, if the deal eventually materialises. He is undoubtedly one of the best players in England and losing him to a direct rival doesn’t bode well for Arsenal.

Not so long ago, the North Londoners had sold Robin van Persie to Manchester United only for him to almost single-handedly inspire the Red Devils to their last Premier League title under Sir Alex Ferguson.

If Sanchez goes on to do the same under Pep Guardiola, it’d be a painful case of déjà vu for the Gooners alright.
