West Bromwich Albion targetting Serie A goal-poacher: A smart move by Tony Pulis?

West Bromwich Albion are looking for some attacking reinforcements after an having an awful time in front of the goal with Saloman Rondon, their top striker finishing the season with just eight goals to his name.

Diego Falcinelli’s name has come up in recent reports which suggest that the Baggies and Everton are both looking to sign the Italian forward. The 25-year-old has up until now spend all of his time in his homeland Italy and it remains to be seen whether West Brom can entice the striker to England.

Falcinelli would perhaps be the perfect candidate for West Brom and a move to Hawthorns can help both the parties. He has impressed for Crotone where he has managed to find the back of the net 13 times in 35 Serie A appearances for Crotone this season.

He has been reported to have been persistently tracked by the Baggies. Torino are also said to have been interested in his services.

Despite not having left Italy, Falcinelli has spent his career being loaned out to five different clubs since moving to Sassuolo in 2009. He is now at Crotone where he has played an important role for the club due to which he has come to limelight with several clubs showing interest in the £9m rated player.

The 25-year-old is really good technical players whose abilities inside the box are excellent. His improvisation and skills in the box are quite exquisite and his ability to get through physical duels inside the box is also commendable. He can be categorised as a typical poacher who often roams around the six-yard-box often deceiving defenders with his movement.

He also has numerous weaknesses, though. Despite being good with either of his foot, his main weakness lies in aerial duels and is not really good in the air. His accuracy from long range is quite questionable as most of his goals have come from inside the box but is quite good in one on one situations. Falcinelli has obvious weaknesses but Tony Pulis could help him acclimatise to English football quite easily and hit the ground running. He isn’t a typical Pulis type player though.

With a £9m price-tag, the striker is in the price range of the Baggies and they would have to move quickly to acquire the services with several clubs interested which might inflate his price by a few million quid. Falcinelli will be an excellent addition to whichever club he goes to.
