Tottenham Hotspur planning a shock swoop for Champions League winner: Poch at his best?

Dani Alves has gone from strength to strength post his departure from Barcelona, defying many critics and football pundits alike who suggested that the Brazilian’s fitness and defensive capabilities were on the wane.

Recent reports suggest that many top Premier League clubs are in hot pursuit to acquire the service of the Juventus full-back with Tottenham being one of the potential destinations for the veteran defender.

The 34-year old played a key role in Juventus’ more than a successful campaign which saw them win the Serie A, Coppa Italia and also end as runners-up in the Champions League.

Although tied to the Bianconeri till 2018 with a further option to extend it by a year, rumours suggest that the ex-Barcelona man is open to options at the moment and might swap shirts if a right offer comes along the way.

Pochettino, on the other hand, is already on the lookout for options at the back as the departure of Danny Rose and Kyle Walker seem more and more imminent this summer. It is being suggested that the Argentine is looking for experience and expertise in the full-back positions to help his squad in competing at both domestic and European fronts and the Brazilian would suffice the purpose.

Player stats

The Brazilian had been outstanding with his role in the full-back position from his Sevilla days and little seems to have changed during the course of his career.

  • Although not a regular in the first team sheet, Alves has always risen to the occasion when given the responsibility of the manager. Making a total of 33 appearances for the club this season, the Brazilian has managed to chip in with 6 goals and 6 assists. Age certainly hasn’t hindered the veteran’s vision and creativity up front.
  • The player has also maintained a stunning pass success percentage of 86.1 in all competitions and has chipped in with a healthy 64 key passes for the Bianconeri. Certainly, enviable stats to put any young defender to shame, the ex-Barcelona man still possess the quality to build play and contribute to the team’s offence up front.
  • Making a total of 45 interceptions and a tackle success percentage of 68.06, he could give any young full-back or a winger a run for his money. (Stats via WhoScored)

What’ll he bring to the Club?

Having ample experience of playing in the top leagues and as well as in the European front, the Brazilian oozes class. He could do the job at the back for Spurs as well as help Pochettino in rearing up young talents for the upcoming season to come.

Pochettino must surely be contemplating to rope in the 3-time UCL winner and with the stellar resume presented above, very few will question the addition of Alves to the Tottenham. Certainly a vessel of experience, knowledge the player would a sight for sore eyes in North London.
