Newcastle United have started the work in the background to identify targets and making contact with their clubs. The Magpies are searching to add goalscoring midfielders in their ranks to help the lessen the load on their strikers as many attacking midfielders are being linked with a move to St. James’ Park. The latest player being monitored by Newcastle is Brentford’s Jota.

The Spanish midfielder was the Bees’ creative outlet for the second half of the season and his good form has seen him being scouted by many. Jota has just one year remaining on his contract with the player admitting his wish of playing in the first division.

Brentford want £8 million for the Spaniard and are willing to let go of their player for the mentioned price. But the Bees still are hoping to change his mind and are in process of offering the 25-year-old a new improved deal.

Jota joined Brentford in 2014 and became an instant hit in the Championship. He scored 11 goals and 3 assists in the 2014/15 campaign and was one of Brentford’s best players. He had some family issues because of which he was allowed to go on loan to Celta Vigo the next season for two years.

His loan spell was cut short in January as he wasn’t getting much playing time in Spain. After arriving, Jota impressed one and all and delivered a return of 12 goals and 5 assists in just 19 starts in the second division. It was his late surge which enabled Brentford to a mid-table finish.

What he’ll offer to the club?

Jota is a typical Spanish attacking talent who is strong in basics and loves to have a ball at his feet. He likes to thread defence-splitting passes and also to run with the ball.

He has an excellent vision of the game which makes the midfielder a complete package. The 25-year-old also has a knack of scoring goals at crucial intervals and is a brilliant finisher. He takes set pieces and also has a good long shot.

Worth the money?

Jota arrived from Spain for the second time with vigour and has proved his class in a team like Brentford. He has all the qualities which are needed in an attacking midfielder to play for a Premier League club and if not Newcastle, some or the other club will have a go with him.

The Magpies can offer him a starting role in their side and under an able Spanish manager, Newcastle can provide him with the best opportunity to take the next step in his career. His valuation is decent enough for Newcastle as this transfer might just happen very soon.
