Newcastle United Keen On This Liverpool Striker: Why This Could Be A Masterstroke By Rafa

Transfer Story

Reports have linked Liverpool striker Danny Ings with a possible move to Newcastle United in the summer. Benitez is eyeing to introduce some experience as well as some quality to his Championship winning side and is more than keen on the ex-Burnley striker.

Ings, 24, had a torrid time at Liverpool which saw him mostly on the sidelines or on the bench during his 2-year spell with the Reds. Consistently puckered with injury and fitness issues has limited his appearances with the Reds of Merseyside to just 6 in the last 2 years of Premier League.

Having fallen out of favour and also slipping down the pecking order at Anfield, the English International is keen for some game time and is said to be open to offers to swap shirts. Although tied to Liverpool till 2020, it is to be believed that a suitable offer on the table might see the departure of the 24-year-old from Anfield.

Let’s take a look at the player’s stats.

Player Stats

The player had been a lethal force with Burnley during his time at Turf Moor. Much of that earlier sheen and lethality seems to have been lost from the once-hyped individual.

Once tipped to become a lethal force to pair up with Kane upfront for England, much seems to be lost.

The player has scored 13 goals and notched up 4 assists in his entire 41 appearances in the Premier League with just 38 shots on target.

With a shot accuracy of 38% and a pass average of 19.39 per match, there is much to improve for the player.

Known for his superiority in the air, the striker does pose a threat upfront during set pieces and corners.(Stats via PremierLeague)

What’ll he offer the Club?

Other than the fact that Ings is much experienced and knows the Premier League much better than many of the newcomers among the Magpies, there is hardly any other added advantage of bringing in the 24-year-old.

Most game pundits and experts believe that the Englishman’s power is on the wane and little is there to be turned around after his prolonged spell on the operation table.

But if speculations are to be believed it is the shrewd Spaniard, Rafa who believes that he could extract the best from the ex-Burnley man and he believes that the player is far from being finished.

Also, the fact that his recent form might compel the Reds to offload him at a cheaper price is also an added bonus for the Newcastle boss.

Certainly a transfer to raise quite a few eyebrows if it does manage to go through!
