Wharton & Lerma In Midfield: 3-4-2-1 Crystal Palace Predicted Lineup vs Burnley

Crystal Palace will look to snap their three-game winless run in the Premier League on Saturday when they welcome Burnley to Selhurst Park.

Oliver Glasner was named the club’s new manager before the Eagles’ 1-1 draw at Everton on Monday night, with Roy Hodgson stepping down from his role after a torrid run of form. Assistant manager Paddy McCarthy and first team coach Ray Lewington managed the side against Everton at Goodison Park.

Glasner should be aiming to start his Palace career with a home win against Burnley, who were smashed 5-0 by Arsenal at Turf Moor last weekend.

Michael Olise, Eberechi Eze, Rob Holding, Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, Cheick Doucoure and Marc Guehi are all on the sidelines, although Guehi’s return date is unclear. Will Hughes missed the draw with Everton after picking up a slight knock during the defeat to Chelsea earlier this month but could be back for the visit of Burnley.

Goalkeeper

The change in the dugout provides an air of unpredictability around the possible XI. Sam Johnstone started against Everton in the Crystal Palace lineup at Goodison Park on Monday, and Oliver Glasner may look to go with the Englishman in goal for Burnley’s visit.

Defence

A back three system was used on Monday, with Joel Ward, Joachim Andersen and Chris Richards starting in defence. The 3-4-2-1 formation could be retained by Glasner as he looks to find some stability at the back.

The defensive trio must deal with Burnley’s pacey attackers if they intend to keep a clean sheet at home.

Midfield

Tyrick Mitchell and Daniel Munoz will start as the wing-backs in the Crystal Palace lineup. They will look to protect the central defenders and nullify the wide threat from the Clarets.

Jefferson Lerma should line up alongside January recruit Adam Wharton in the middle of the park in the Crystal Palace lineup, bringing drive, tenacity and defensive cover to the home side.

Will Hughes, if deemed fit, could feature off the bench along with Jairo Riedewald.

Attack

Odsonne Edouard and Jordan Ayew will be deployed in the attacking midfield roles in the Crystal Palace lineup, and they will look to link the midfield with the attack and create goalscoring opportunities in the final third. In the absence of creative players such as Eze and Olise, Palace will turn to Ayew and Edouard for some inspiration in attack.

Finally, Jean-Philippe Mateta will be tasked with leading the line for the Eagles again, and with his rangy legs and imposing figure he could prove a real handful for the fragile Burnley defence.

Glasner could provide opportunities to the likes of Matheus Franca, David Ozoh and Naouirou Ahamada to make an impact off the bench.
