Real Madrid have reportedly identified Napoli hitman Victor Osimhen as an alternative to Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe.
The most sought-after footballer in the world right now, Kylian Mbappe’s contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires in June and there is a lot of interest in where the French World Cup winner will end up. PSG are pushing to keep hold of their valuable asset and president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has said that they already have a deal in place. However, the forward remains tight-lipped amid constant links with a move to Real Madrid.
According to Football Transfers, the Mbappe transfer saga has led to an internal war at Real Madrid, leading to the Spanish giants now contemplating a move for Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.
Some of the senior board members at Real Madrid have voiced their opinion against signing Mbappe. The report adds they feel Osimhen is more suited to the club’s style of play and profile than Mbappe, who teased the Spanish giants in 2022 with a potential transfer before signing a new contract with PSG.
Victor Osimhen viewed as an alternative to Kylian Mbappe—Right choice from Real Madrid?
Real Madrid are expected to be in the transfer market for a striker in the near future. Los Blancos still haven’t adequately replaced Karim Benzema, and they probably do need to if they are to push on next season.
Their interest in Kylian Mbappe is an open secret, and as the star forward has entered the final six months of his contract at PSG, the rumours of a potential move to Santiago Bernabeu on a free transfer have already started swirling. The player is not thought likely to trigger his one-year contract option and extend his stay at PSG.
However, Victor Osimhen is preferred to Mbappe by Real Madrid’s top brass as they feel the potential signing bonuses and transfer fee, as well as the Nigerian striker’s style of play, would seamlessly fit at Santiago Bernabeu. Osimhen is rated as one of Europe’s best strikers, and he is starting to look like a player who could be a really solid Benzema replacement at Real. With 26 goals in 32 appearances, the 25-year-old was the Serie A’s top scorer last season.
Osimhen has gone from strength to strength after taking the step up from Lille, and there is no doubt he is going to cost near enough a club-record fee if Real look to bring him in. The Nigeria international is certainly ready to move to a bigger club than Napoli and perhaps his best move would be to join Carlo Ancelotti’s Real, where he could act as Benzema’s ultimate heir apparent after his move to Saudi Arabia in the summer.
