Newcastle United Interested In Serhou Guirassy—Right Choice?

Newcastle United are reportedly interested in Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy to strengthen their attack.

The Magpies have realised the fact that they do not have depth in attacking unit to compete in different competitions. Injuries to Harvey Barnes, Callum Wilson and Jacob Murphy have made them in desperate need of attacking reinforcements during the winter transfer window. As a result, the club have started putting up plans to help Eddie Howe in the second half of the campaign.

According to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, Newcastle United are considering a January move for Stuttgart star Serhou Guirassy.

Guirassy, 27, has been on fire in the Bundesliga this season, scoring 15 goals in 10 appearances. The Guinea international, who is tied up with Stuttgart until 2026, would be an attractive proposition to Newcastle due to the £15.2million release clause in his contract.

Serhou Guirassy to Newcastle—Right choice?

Newcastle have been rocked by injuries which have hampered their progress this season, with Eddie Howe unable to call upon the services of 11 first-team players against PSG. It’s clear, therefore, that any suitable additions in January could really help Eddie Howe’s injury-ravaged squad to kick on in the second half of the campaign.

To that end, a striker appears to be on Howe’s January wishlist as he hopes to bring his team back into contention for the Champions League places as a bare minimum. Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy has caught the attention of the Magpies ahead of the winter window.

One of European football’s hottest striking properties, Guirassy has formed a superb partnership with Denis Undav up front and helped Stuttgart enjoy a strong start to the 2023/24 season. The prolific Guinean is now second on Bundesliga’s top-scorer’s list behind Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane, who has netted 18 goals already.

Howe needs more options up front, and Guirassy would be the ideal fit. The 27-year-old is in rollicking form and could make an immediate impact for the Toon Army. Alexander Isak is back among the goals following his return from injury, and he could form a lethal partnership with Guirassy. With Wilson’s record a bit of a concern, the Stuttgart star could also be an excellent option to have on the bench.

At 27, the ex-Rennes man would want to test himself at the highest level right now by joining a top Premier League club. A move to Newcastle would be a thrilling opportunity for him, and the Premier League outfit should be able to afford his paltry release clause in January. And if Guirassy manages to hit the ground running in England, the £15.2million investment could appear a real snip.
