Manchester United’s Premier League campaign resumes on Saturday evening when they travel to Bramall Lane to play Sheffield United.
The Red Devils went into the recent international break on a high, following Scott McTominay’s late brace to beat Brentford 2-1 at Old Trafford. Erik ten Hag and his men will now be aiming to build on that dramatic victory ahead of another busy period.
They will head to South Yorkshire as favourites on paper against Sheffield United, who have taken just one point from their opening eight Premier League games.
Manchester United Team News
Sergio Reguilon is expected to be fit to travel to Sheffield United, having missed the last four games in all formats with a hamstring problem. Raphael Varane, too, is expected to be in the travelling Man United squad after missing out against Brentford with a minor issue.
Casemiro suffered an ankle injury while on Brazil duty. However, he recovered in time against Uruguay in the World Cup qualifiers and completed the full game.
Predicted Manchester United lineup vs Sheffield United (4-3-3)
Goalkeeper
Andre Onana has come under a lot of fire following his error-strewn performances in goal for Man United. For now, he has the faith of Ten Hag and should start in goal against Sheffield United but that could soon change if his performances don’t improve.
Defence
Raphael Varane should be back in the starting XI after missing the last game against Brentford. The Frenchman could partner Harry Maguire in central defence, with Victor Lindelof among the substitutes. Meanwhile, Diogo Dalot appears to be an obvious starter at right-back.
Sergio Reguilon seems to have recovered from a hamstring problem and should resume his place at left-back against the Blades.
Midfield
Casemiro has been nowhere near his usual level this term and was hooked off at half time against Brentford. Despite recovering from a foot problem and playing the full game against Uruguay, the Brazilian could start on the bench on Saturday with Sofyan Amrabat anchoring Man United’s midfield.
As a holding midfielder, Amrabat will be tasked with snuffing out attacks and recycling possession. He will be joined by Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount in the Man United engine room. Fernandes and Mount will look to use their drive, energy and creativity to breach the home side’s defence.
Christian Eriksen and Scott McTominay will need to settle for spots on the bench alongside Casemiro.
Attack
Marcus Rashford scored a fine goal in England’s 3-1 Euro 2024 qualifying win over Italy on Tuesday evening. This should give him a lot of confidence heading into Saturday’s game at Bramall Lane. The England international is expected to retain his spot on the left wing, while Antony gets a chance to prove his doubters wrong from the other flank.
Rasmus Hojlund, who scored in Denmark’s 2-1 win over San Marino on Tuesday, should spearhead Man United’s attack once again, with Anthony Martial starting on the bench. Alejandro Garnacho and Facundo Pellistri may get opportunities to make an impact in the second half.
