Everton Keen On Relegated Premier League Star

Everton are reportedly in a three-way Premier League battle with Wolves and Bournemouth for the signing of Southampton striker Che Adams.

The Toffees have signed Ashely Young on a free transfer from Aston Villa and Arnaut Danjuma on loan from Villarreal. They are closing in on Sporting CP forward Youssef Chermiti, but will pursue an additional attacking signing as Sean Dyche looks to address his team’s problems of scoring goals.

According to Football Insider, Everton have genuine interest in signing Che Adams from Southampton, with the striker keen to leave the club following their relegation from the Premier League at the end of last season.

Adams, 27, scored five goals and registered three assists along the way in 28 league appearances last term but couldn’t save the Saints from getting relegated. He has entered the final year of his contract and Southampton are open to cashing him in this summer amid interest from many English clubs, the report adds.

Che Adams to Everton—Decent option for Sean Dyche?

Everton are actively evaluating striker options in the transfer market as Sean Dyche looks to bring in two new frontmen this summer. Sporting CP forward Youssef Chermiti is on the brink of joining the Royal Blues, but it appears that Sean Dyche is not ready to rely completely on the young Portuguese for goals next season. As a result, he wants another forward on board at Goodison Park before the transfer window slams shut.

With Ellis Simms already moving on and Neal Maupay also deemed surplus to requirements, the Everton boss wants a new striker to bolster his attack that really struggled for goals last season. And, along with Chermiti, Dyche wants the club to sign Southampton striker Che Adams.

Adams arrived at Southampton in a £15million deal from Birmingham City in 2019, and he has gone on to register 25 goals and 14 assists in 124 Premier League outings for the south coast club so far. At international level, he has notched five goals in 23 appearances for Scotland.

Quick, burly and tenacious, Adams would be an ideal fit in Dyche’s system at Goodison Park. The 27-year-old will be keen to make an immediate return to the Premier League, using the top-flight experience he has gained with Southampton in recent years to help solve Everton’s goalscoring problems.

The Scotsman wasn’t a prolific goalscorer in the Premier League, so he must improve his productivity and provide Dyche with a reliable option up top if a move goes through. Plus, Dyche will expect Adams to compete and cover for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, whose fitness has let him down in the last two seasons.

With that being said, it would make sense for Everton to sign Adams this summer and if they could beat their competitors to his signature, it would provide Dyche with a player at the peak of his powers and raring to prove himself in the Premier League.
