Tottenham Hotspur Set To Make A Move For Juventus Centre-back

Tottenham are reportedly eyeing a move for Juventus defender Gleison Bremer.

The north Londoners have started making moves in the summer transfer window in a bid to give new boss Ange Postecoglou the best chance to get off to a flying start in the next Premier League season. After completing the signing of Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli, it looks like Ange Postecoglou wants to shift attention to reinforcing his defensive options.

According to The Telegraph, Tottenham have added Gleison Bremer to their list of centre-back targets. The Juventus defender has interest from other Premier League sides also, but Spurs are one of the clubs leading the race for his signature.

Bremer, 26, has excelled at the back during his time in Italy with Torino and Juventus. The centre-back, who was a part of the Brazil squad at the 2022 World Cup, made 30 league appearances for Juventus after signing from local rivals Torino, where he enjoyed four solid years. The Brazilian’s performances have also caught the eye of Manchester United and Chelsea, and the club that signs him could have to splash up to £50million for his services, the report adds.

Gleison Bremer to Tottenham—A smart acquisition?

Tottenham were awful at the back last season under three different managers—Antonio Conte, Cristian Stellini and Ryan Mason—conceding 63 goals in the Premier League. None of Eric Dier, Cristian Romero or Clement Lenglet performed consistently, leaving the Spurs backline exposed.

The lack of quality and depth in their defensive ranks resulted in them losing out on a place in Europe. And with Davinson Sanchez keen to end his time at Spurs this summer and Lenglet having returned to Barcelona after the expiry of his loan, Ange Postecoglou wants to ensure they have all bases covered before the start of the next campaign.

After years of rumours, Gleison Bremer, once again, has emerged as a target for Spurs. After a solid season with Juventus, the north Londoners want to bring Bremer to the Premier League. The Brazilian international could be an outstanding addition to Spurs’ defensive ranks, whilst being an immediate upgrade on the error-prone Dier. He is strong in the air, quick through the ground and a good reader of the game, and the 26-year-old’s proactive style of defending will work wonders under Postecoglou and his high defensive-line system.

Bremer is also a composed passer of the ball and will complement Romero’s no-nonsense approach as a centre-back pairing. However, as he isn’t proven at Premier League level, the ex-Torino man may take some time to adapt to the demands of English football.

At 26, nonetheless, Bremer is entering the prime of his career and could spend his best years in north London if Spurs can get a deal done. That said, Tottenham must quickly look to get a deal for Bremer over the line.
