Crystal Palace Ready To Make A Move For Torino Centre-back

Crystal Palace are reportedly considering a move for Torino defender Perr Schuurs amid interest in Marc Guehi and Joachim Andersen.

The Eagles finished 11th in the table this past season under Roy Hodgson, who decided to return to management and replace Patrick Vieira at the helm of the club. Hodgson did a good job after taking charge of the south London club in March, winning five out of eight Premier League games, which has led to Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish wanting the 75-year-old to sign a one-year extension.

Regardless of what the managerial situation is, Steve Parish and co. have started scouring the market for new players. According to The Athletic, Crystal Palace are exploring a deal for Torino’s Perr Schuurs. However, as because Torino’s asking price for their defender is high, Palace signing him would depend on them selling one of their first-choice centre-backs—Joachim Andersen or Marc Guehi.

The report adds the Eagles are braced for interest in Andersen and Guehi after their solid performances for the majority of 2022-23 campaign. Andersen is on the radar of Newcastle United, while Guehi has been attracting interest from Tottenham in this transfer window.

Perr Schuurs to Crystal Palace—Good move?

Perr Schuurs, 23, moved to Torino from Ajax last summer and impressed quite a lot of people during his debut season in Italy. He made 30 appearances for Torino, registering two assists, and his strong performances at the heart of their defence has caught the attention of Crystal Palace.

Palace are braced for interest in Andersen and Guehi and must decide quickly before tabling an offer for Schuurs. Andersen has excelled at Selhurst Park since arriving from Lyon in the summer of 2021, building a strong partnership with Guehi in central defence.

Newcastle United, who enjoyed a superb 2022-23 season and qualified for the Champions League, are optimistic about signing Andersen. And if the Dane is sold to Newcastle, Palace believe Schuurs is the man to replace the wantaway star.

Schuurs, highly rated across Europe, can play in both centre-back positions. This would benefit Palace a lot as Andersen could leave and he could slot in at the right-hand side of defence. The former Netherlands under-21 international has the mix of technical and physical qualities to complement Guehi and potentially build a strong partnership at the heart of Palace’s rearguard. Due to his tall frame, the 23-year-old is an asset in both boxes as well.

In spite of this, it is going to be difficult to fill in Anderson’s big boots. Schuurs, who is young and talented, will undoubtedly feel he has the confidence to succeed with the Eagles in the Premier League.
