Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies.
Following the recent capture of Palmeiras’ Brazilian starlet Endrick, who is due to arrive at Santiago Bernabeu when he turns 18 in the summer of 2024, the European champions continue to scour the market for young and hungry blood.
According to Spanish outlet Diario AS, Real Madrid are planning to sign Alphonso Davies in 2024, when he will potentially have just one year left on his contract at Bayern Munich.
Davies, 22, is regarded as one of the best left-backs in the world and he impressed Real Madrid with his eye-catching displays at the World Cup in Qatar. While Canada lost all their three group games and the left-back missed a penalty against Belgium, the Bayern star was easily his nation’s standout performer in the showpiece event.
Real’s plan is to find the most economical way to lure a top talent like Davies away from Bayern and right now they feel it will be difficult to convince Bayern to let their left-back leave, the report adds.
Alphonso Davies to Real Madrid—The right option?
Real Madrid are planning for defensive reinforcements in the next couple of transfer windows. A left-back could be on their agenda, with first-choice Ferland Mendy’s performance levels dipping in the last 12 to 15 months and David Alaba majorly operating as a central defender under head coach Carlo Ancelotti.
At the same time, Mendy faces an uncertain future at the Santiago Bernabeu, with Los Blancos considering selling him. They will demand at least €50 million to part ways with the underperforming Frenchman, thus, prompting the Spanish champions to scour the market for a long-term solution at left-back in the coming years.
Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies has emerged as a target for Real but they are mapping out a plan to sign him in 2024. Davies arrived at Bayern from Vancouver Whitecaps in 2019 and has since established himself as one of the best left-backs in world football.
Athletic, agile, speedy and a good reader of the game, the Canada international has racked up six goals and 21 assists in 134 appearances for Bayern, winning 12 titles already, including the 2020 Champions League. Despite being just 22, Davies is a leader and warrior and has volumes of experience at the highest level.
He is a gifted technician and possesses the required attacking qualities to operate in an advanced role on the left, as evidenced by his performances at the recently concluded World Cup. The Canada international would be an immediate upgrade over Mendy and secure Real’s left-back position for the best part of the decade.
Bayern will fight tooth and nail to keep hold of Davies and are likely to offer him a new contract. Nonetheless, Real must try their best to land him in 2024.
