Chelsea in contact with Vlahovic: Should they formulate a move?

Chelsea are reportedly interested in Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic and have made contact with his agent after Armando Broja suffered a season-ending injury.

Armando Broja suffered a nasty ACL injury during a mid-season friendly against Aston Villa recently, and the Albanian international will need surgery which could rule him out for up to 9-12 months. Broja’s injury, coupled with poor returns from Raheem Sterling, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Kai Havertz this season, could force Graham Potter to dip into the transfer market for a new striker.

According to CBS Sports reporter Ben Jacobs, Chelsea have made contact with the agent of Dusan Vlahovic, who has a good chance of leaving Juventus in 2023. A January exit is not ruled out, with many top European clubs in touch with his agent, although the Serbia international is currently nursing a groin problem, Jacobs tweeted.

Vlahovic, 22, signed for Juventus in January in a £62million deal from Fiorentina. He has been in good goal-scoring form for the Turin giants with 16 goals in 36 games, including six goals in 10 Serie A games this season. However, Juventus could be prepared to let the Serbian striker leave next month amid record financial losses at the club over the last three years.

Dusan Vlahovic to Chelsea—Should the Blues launch a move?

After a positive start under Graham Potter, Chelsea lost three of their last four Premier League games before the World Cup break and dropped down to eighth in the table. A lack of goals has been their major undoing this season, with the Blues managing only 17 goals in 14 games so far.

In light of Armando Broja needing to undergo surgery for a knee injury sustained recently in a friendly, and the lacklustre displays of summer signings Raheem Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Graham Potter has identified the need for a new striker to help Chelsea compete for a top-four finish.

There is a very real possibility that Dusan Vlahovic could leave Juventus in the winter window, and the west London club now appear to be a potential suitor for the player that they coveted last January. Vlahovic has not been as lethal as he was at Fiorentina, where he established himself as one of the best young strikers in Europe, but the 22-year-old still remains one of Juventus’ main men.

The Serbia international has earned plaudits for his hot goal-scoring exploits, and this is demonstrated by a smashing scoring record in what is still a relatively burgeoning career so far, netting 68 goals in 171 senior club games, whilst also registering 11 assists in the process. He could be ideal for Chelsea right now, with Potter and co. in desperate need of goals during the upcoming second half of the season.

At 22, Vlahovic is far from a finished product but he could be what Chelsea needs in attack. Even though the Serbian is not 100% fit at the moment, the Blues must try their best to bring him to Stamford Bridge in January if an opportunity arises.
