Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing Borussia Monchengladbach striker Marcus Thuram in the winter transfer window.

Spurs are on the hunt for a new forward in the mid-season transfer period, as Antonio Conte looks to bolster his team’s hopes of making it to the Champions League again next season. Regardless of an inconsistent last few weeks, they are fourth in the table and entered the international break with a thrilling 4-3 win over Leeds United.

According to 90min, Tottenham sent scouts to watch Marcus Thuram and Youssoufa Moukoko in last week’s clash between Borussia Monchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund. Gladbach won 4-2 against Dortmund, with Thuram scoring the third goal of the evening to make it 13 strikes in just 17 games thus far this season.

Marcus Thuram, 25, arrived at Borussia Monchengladbach from FC Guingamp in 2019 and has proven to be a top acquisition ever since for the Bundesliga club. In 119 appearances, he has registered 41 goals and 26 assists for Gladbach, with 13 goals and four assists already coming from him this term, and the forward’s sensational form has seen him recently being called up to France’s World Cup squad.

However, Thuram sees his contract run out in the summer and is free to negotiate with foreign clubs as early as January with Spurs’ north London rivals Arsenal also admirers of him, the report adds.

Marcus Thuram to Tottenham—A good option for the club?

Tottenham had made a decent start to the 2022/23 season but their form has dipped in recent weeks, with performance levels dropping amid a crammed fixture schedule and several key players picking up injuries. Antonio Conte made six signings last summer but has continually insisted that it will take a few more windows before the north Londoners will be capable of challenging for top prizes.

As a result, Spurs are ready to bring in a couple of new faces in January—like they did last year—to reinforce Conte’s squad, with a backup forward at the top of the wishlist. Marcus Thuram of Gladbach has emerged as an option for Spurs of late.

Thuram, with his physicality, power and aerial ability, could be an ideal strike partner for Harry Kane at Tottenham, especially with Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison providing additional support. He could also provide competition and cover for Kane, who has had injury problems in the past and missed chunks of action. In addition, the Frenchman would give Spurs a different dimension in attack.

For a striker entering his prime, Tottenham signing Marcus Thuram on a cut-price deal in January would be quite the coup, especially with so many clubs vying for his signature.
