With the midweek European fixtures done and dusted, the Premier League matchweek 10 will offer its fair share of thrills and spills over the weekend.
The Premier League table is taking quite a shape, with Arsenal sitting pretty at the summit of the league followed by the likes of Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton. With exciting clashes lined up, let us take a look at 3 burning questions.
- Can the Liverpool defence cope with Arsenal’s attack?
Arsenal taking on Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday is going to be the game of the weekend, with both clubs in contrasting forms.
The Gunners’ superb start to the season has taken them to the top of the table following seven wins from their opening eight games. The latest of those victories came last weekend, as North London rivals Tottenham were swept aside 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium.
Liverpool, on the other hand, have endured an underwhelming start to the season and already find themselves 11 points behind Arsenal, who have played a game more. They were held to a 3-3 draw by Brighton at Anfield in the league last time out, raising further concerns over their uncertainty while defending.
This begs a question—how will Liverpool’s shaky defence contain a sparkling Arsenal attack that includes Gabriel Jesus, Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Martinelli?
- Can Manchester United bounce back?
Manchester City provided a timely reminder to Manchester United of how far they are at the moment by beating them 6-3 in the derby at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, thus, ending a run of four consecutive league wins for Erik ten Hag’s side.
The Red Devils folded like a pack of cards in the derby defeat to City that should have hugely disappointed Ten Hag. Up next for Man United in the Premier League is a trip to a resurgent Everton side that has won their last two games.
Playing against Everton in a hostile Goodison Park will certainly not be easy for United. It remains to be seen whether Ten Hag’s side possesses the mental strength and character to bounce back against Frank Lampard’s Everton after learning harsh lessons at the hands of City.
- Can Leicester make it back-to-back wins?
Leicester City’s dismal run of six consecutive Premier League defeats came to an end on Monday night with a thumping 4-0 victory over East Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest.
The 6-2 defeat at the hands of Tottenham before the international break appeared to be the final nail in the coffin for Brendan Rodgers, but the club decided to keep faith in him. For now, the decision to keep Rodgers has paid off as his team produced a scintillating performance to brush aside a clueless Nottingham Forest side at the King Power Stadium.
However, the Northern Irishman still finds himself under immense pressure and will only be able to buy more time from the owners if he manages to beat Bournemouth—Leicester City’s next opponents. Thus, it will be interesting to see whether or not the Leicester players turn up at the Vitality Stadium.
