Former Chelsea Star Wants PL Return: Should Man United Pounce On Him?

Manchester United have been reportedly put on red alert, as AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham wants a return back to the Premier League next year.

The England international, 24, joined AS Roma last summer from Chelsea and went on to enjoy a productive first season in Serie A football, scoring 17 goals in 37 appearances. With nine goals, he also played a crucial role in AS Roma’s Europa Conference triumph. However, the centre-forward is eyeing a return to England as soon as possible.

According to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, Manchester United are interested in signing Tammy Abraham but will face competition from Chelsea. AS Roma agreed to an €80 million release clause in his contract with Chelsea when they signed the English striker, which comes into effect in 2023.

Interest in Abraham is growing off the back of his fine year in Rome, and he has started the new campaign with two goals and an assist in eight outings.

Tammy Abraham to Man United—Is he a good option?

With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang only brought in as a short-term fix to Chelsea’s goalscoring problems, Chelsea manager Graham Potter could be in the market for a young striker next year. Tammy Abraham, in that regard, would fit the bill perfectly, and as the Blues have a clause to re-sign him for €80million they remain best positioned to sign him ahead of other potential suitors.

Manchester United also wants to be in the race for Abraham’s signature as they look to strengthen their options up front. With Cristiano Ronaldo’s future up in the air, Anthony Martial struggling with injuries and Mason Greenwood suspended, signing a top-class striker will be among the top priorities for Erik ten Hag.

Ten Hag missed out on the signing of a striker in the past summer transfer window despite being linked with a host of names. The Dutchman will want to continue rebuilding the club with talented young players who fit in his philosophy, and Tammy Abraham is certainly a profile of a striker he can look to bring in at Old Trafford.

Abraham is a poacher in the box, capable of scoring all kinds of goals. The England international can press from the front with energy and intensity, while his sheer pace can trouble any defenders in 1v1 situations. At 24, he still has some aspects to fine-tune into his game and Ten Hag could be the right manager to unlock his true potential.

Thus, Man United must not hesitate to make a move for Abraham when the transfer window reopens in January.
