Newcastle Eyeing A Smart Move For Chelsea Winger

Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi.

The Magpies are looking to make some more additions to their squad before the transfer window slams shut in less than two weeks’ time, having signed Matt Targett, Sven Botman and Nick Pope so far. But as clubs are continuing to price them out of deals, Eddie Howe and co., as a result, have now scouring the loan market for new players.

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle United have enquired about four Chelsea players who could be allowed to leave Stamford Bridge this summer, either on loan or permanently. Callum Hudson-Odoi is among that quartet Eddie Howe is interested in linking up with at St. James’ Park.

Hudson-Odoi, 21, endured a frustrating 2021/22 season as he managed only 28 appearances across all competitions. The English attacker’s importance has dwindled under Thomas Tuchel and he was an unused substitute in Chelsea’s enthralling 2-2 draw with Tottenham at Stamford Bridge.

With the Blues signing Raheem Sterling from Manchester City, Hudson-Odoi appears certain to exit the club on loan, with Newcastle United vying for his signature, the report adds.

Callum Hudson-Odoi to Newcastle United—A smart move?

Newcastle United have plenty of money to spend since their takeover last year, and so far it has made some exciting signings in the form of Bruno Guimaraes, Kieran Trippier, Sven Botman and Nick Pope. If the club can bring in a few more players in this transfer window, that would be a massive boost for Eddie Howe as he looks to assemble a squad that can challenge for trophies.

Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi has emerged as an option for the Magpies of late, with Eddie Howe keen on adding to his forward line. Since breaking into the senior Chelsea squad during the 2017/18 campaign, Hudson-Odoi has made 126 appearances, scoring 16 goals. However, he has struggled for regular game time and failed to cement his place in the team so far.

With quality and competition within the Chelsea attacking ranks intense, a loan move away to Newcastle United this season seems a practical option for the young winger. Under Howe, Hudson-Odoi could enjoy regular playing opportunities and hone his skills.

A quick and skillful player, the England international can play in many attacking positions that should entice Howe and Newcastle. He would be a good option to compete with the likes of Allan Saint-Maximin, Miguel Almiron, Jacob Murphy and Ryan Fraser, whilst improving the squad depth.

Thus, a loan move to Newcastle would make complete sense for all the parties involved and give Hudson-Odoi a great chance to reignite his stuttering career.
